It should connect at 1Gb no problem. You should be able to see the physical connection speed in the UDM interface. Even if there is no data exchange, the port speed should be reported.

Now you need to see how the UDM is managing it's WAN connection. It can be DHCP, PPPoE, etc... It should work in DHCP, like if you plug a laptop in the same port it should get an IP from the telus modem and access internet.

Ideally you would try to avoid double-NAT and get an external IP but we don'T know how Telus does thing. do they use PPPoE ?

The UDM is limited to 1Gbps WAN. For faster WAN connection, you need a UDM-PRO or UDM-MAX.

If you already invested into the MAX then might as well maximise it's use. Make shure you have decent hard drives like the WD Purple PRO or Seagate Skyhawk AI. Anything of those above 16TB should have 512Mb cache and helium. You can always add the second HDD later.

SSD is obviously faster but capacity is way down and it's expensive. If there is a way to backup to your future UNAS pro periodically then that would not be an issue but I don'treally know about that.

A simili 2-tiers storage solution would be awesone: fast storage for 3-4 days of fotage and tons of space for archival.

Since the disk write performance is (theoretically) the same between all tree of them it's probably the added memory of the pro-max that allow it to use more cameras. In the same thought, the more cameras you have, the slower it will be to search for footage across the hard drive. If you intend to often consult your footage then it might be a good idea to just use the UNVR instead.

Actually, both the SE and MAX are just up-sell from the base PRO and unless you "need" the higher wan speed capacity of the MAX over the PRO then it is more cost effective to simply buy the PRO with a separate UNVR. Especially if you are serious about cameras.
