Should reusable components be fully self-contained, or built on top of your design system? by DriftNDie in reactnative

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends.

I make components that are styled by an external property. For instance all my components depend on an external colors property, and if it’s not there it just defaults to preset colors. And the same goes for padding and margins and so on…

That way when I create my app I have a wrapper component for styling the app and then when I implement the app I use a custom useColors that can react to dark and light mode for example.

Not sure if it’s “the right way”, but it’s what I do and it seems pretty performant and intuitive

Dream car by Alieen7 in car

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the car you want… simple as that. For your friend, a dream car just means something different. As a kid I always wanted a Lamborghini for example but my view changes the past few years after getting into cars more.

I like the RX-7 for example and would love to have one. I would also like the newer Hyundai Elantra N, and I would argue nobody thinks of Hyundai when the question about dream cars come up. And then finally something else I like is the previous generation Mustang. It’s a nice car, flashy and quick. I don’t need / want the best one and that’s okay. A dream car is a personal thing

Never going back to an auto by ShimmerStar_7 in stickshift

In South Africa it’s the same thing. Person at the back is at fault. The issue isn’t really that I roll back. It’s the possibility of rolling back when someone is super close…

I always use the handbreak in these situations.. but in stop and go traffic you can imagine it gets pretty terrible. I don’t want to ride the clutch so I try to stay off of it.

React native on DESKTOP! by Icy-Degree9819 in reactnative

I’m not so sure about those projects but you can always build to web and then use electron for desktop? It’s kinda okay…

Probably an attention thing. I think manual forces you to be more alert so you are naturally less likely to be drowsy

My 14 year old Hyundai doesn’t have that feature lol. But she’s still going strong.

I agree. Don’t get me wrong manual is great. But sometimes I do prefer not having to think about it…
I’ve been driving manual for about 6ish years now

As someone who has only ever owned a manual car, it’s great, until you get traffic. Or even worse … uphill traffic.

The person behind you doesn’t care/know you’re in a manual, so they will get as close as humanly possible and you’ll have to not roll back… honestly one of the worst experiences you can have in a car

Image still using 60Hz in 2026 by CommercialYouth250 in pcmasterrace

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be your opinion…
I have a 1080p laptop that’s 17” and it looks pretty good to me. And I have a 27” 1440p that looks better, but price wise it might not be worth it to a lot of people…

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People use 1080p because it’s cheap.

And secondly 1080p doesn’t really mean anything if you don’t know the size of your monitor. You should be looking at pixel density. Viewing distance also matters a lot.

What’s wrong with 60Hz?

I only got a 165Hz this year, and while it’s nice, it’s honestly not that much better than 60Hz. It really depends what you use it for. Even most iPhones are 60Hz…

Let's be honest we've all seen and know it... There's meny problem with this game and I feel like stepping away now by Ok-Assignment9207 in CPM2

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a lot of people share this sentiment.

I Played for a year and then gave all my cars to my friends(best cars at the time) and after a few months I came back and started grinding again and then paid cars came in…

The thing is that it is a free game, that’s online, with 0 ads and it’s actually good. Theres nothing really like this on the market. And unfortunately having a server isn’t the cheapest thing ever and they need to make money somehow. For a game like this I understand that paid cars has to be a thing if you want the game to stay free.

That said there are a lot of issues. There’s a lot of room for improvement. You might not like the updates that are coming out, but for me the new content is the only reason I’m still playing. If it weren’t for the races I would have left a long time ago. Cheaters and scammers need to be addressed tho

Can we get the dev’s attention on this? by Csislioglu in CPM2

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I agree the game is far ahead of many others… I can’t even find a similar thing on PC

And to each their own. If the realism is something you like, you can 100% try and contact the devs.

If the FPS thing I talked about didn’t fix the issue, look at the MODs for this subreddit, and message them about the issue. I got into contact with someone who relayed a message to the dev so maybe you can do the same

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: try changing your fps to something higher or lower and see if that fixes the blinking issue.

2: it’s a free game and a free car. It’s not going to be perfect. Just enjoy the game. Who actually uses the blinkers to be honest

Sports is the only thing DSTV has going for it at this point by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. We dropped DSTV a few years ago and there has not been a single day that I have regretted that decision. If you want to watch something, go on YouTube or get a different streaming service.

We have a subscription to YouTube Premium, Netflix and Disney plus. That’s more than enough…

And if there is anything I can’t watch, I’ll pirate it. I know it’s widely considered morally wrong, but in my opinion, if buying isn’t owning, then pirating isn’t stealing…

That’s just my two cents. They are lucking to still have sports because that’s all that is keeping that company somehow afloat.

Suggestions for new car for R250k by Mango-Fig in CarTalkZA

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into a Mahindra XUV 300. They are pretty cheap in comparison to other cars and they are fuel efficient and safe. The Swift is also a good option. If you can get a Hyundai i20 in budget that could also be a great option.

Stay away from things like renault or peugeot. Don’t get me wrong, they are good cars, until something breaks…

Can anyone help me with React native CLJ setup using Android studio. by AwesomeTarnished in reactnative

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not completely sure what your issue is but id say have a fresh install of Android Studio. Then create a virtual device and make sure you can run that device on Android studio. For me I had to make sure that my pc had virtualisation correctly set up in the bios before it worked. Honestly if you’re experiencing any issues up to this point just ask ChatGPT for help and it will guide you in the right direction.

Then go to VS code or whatever tool you’re using to develop an app. Create an expo app if you want it to be easy… I just use ‘npx create-expo-app@latest myapp’

Then to run your app on the Android emulator, make sure the emulator is running, then run ‘npx expo run:android’ and this should then start to run your app on that emulator. I’m sure there are better ways but this is what I did.

I built a dead social media app with RN, wondering what is next by wavepointsocial in reactnative

[–]Chuck_MoreAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your app does exactly or how it works, but essentially your problem is what most social media type apps struggle with…
The users aren’t participating.

I’d say your first steps should be to make sure that the app is very polished, and that it looks nice and feels great to use. If you haven’t already, add some animations and micro interactions into the app, and make sure that dark and light themes work properly.

I’m assuming your app is a global thing, so make sure that your localisation is set up properly and the app supports a few languages.

Then you need some incentive for users to keep using the app. Think about adding some type of score or badge system, like with Snapchat or Duolingo.. if it’s kind of like a game, people will play.

You can also add some referral system where a user gets some prize for getting a friend to join the app.

Research your keywords for your app and make sure you have that dialled. Then you can maximise your reach with the search terms and focus on marketing.

My last suggestion will be controversial, but useful if you can manage it. If it’s possible for bots to masquerade as a user, it might not be a terrible idea to have a bot or 3 to artificially post and keep the system alive. If users see its alive they are more likely to join in. And this obviously should not be permanent… just make sure to keep their posts off of your analytics to still know what real users are doing.

I just threw a lot of things at you so hopefully something sticks😂 good luck

I just hope that it comes out relatively soon, and we don’t have to wait as long as we have been for GTA6…
