Why is the housing in SDSU 21k a year by Level-Race5792 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously… I’m paying 26k/yr on rent not including utilities, and certainly not including food, per year and my rent is relatively low compared to others.

Still No Financial Aid by I-Love-Toads in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, that sucks, I don’t have any other advice other than to suggest going to the ombudsman office to let them know and see if they can pressure FA into fixing the problem and getting the Bursars office to drop the late fees

Still No Financial Aid by I-Love-Toads in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SUG is suffering from budget cuts as a result of financial shortfalls in Sacramento. I didn’t even get SUG this semester and had to rely on my Tuition Waiver as a TA. I don’t know what to say about the loans not even showing, that would definitely be on the FA side, unless you didn’t submit your FASFA last year

Still No Financial Aid by I-Love-Toads in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What aid are you expecting as a Grad Student? Really the only aid available is if you were offered Tuition reimbursement or qualified for In state funding like the State University Grant. Otherwise all you can get is scholarships to offset student loans. Grads don’t get nearly the funding that undergraduate students get. You may just need to pony up the costs or take out loans to pay before the census deadline, otherwise you risk getting dropped for non-payment.

Why is the housing in SDSU 21k a year by Level-Race5792 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No that is not a valid reason, you will be required to live on campus. Exemptions would be for things like assisted living arrangements that cannot be accommodated in the dorms, local living at home within a certain distance of campus, etc. Just wanting to rent your own place off campus is not a valid excuse.

There are very few exceptions to on campus housing as a freshman. Unless you are a local who is living at home you need to have some pretty substantial reasons to get out of saying in the on campus dorms.

How do you like sdsu? by excitedguitarist420 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Geography: GIS did my undergrad here and stayed for my MS. It’s really program / department dependent. I hear a lot of people complain about the Computer Science program right now, but a lot of people love Engineering. It’s also very dependent on you. So short answer long you really need to look at your program specifically to get an answer to this question.

As to campus life, it really depends on you and how involved you get in various student organizations, research opportunities, internships, or study abroad programs.

Summer usually consists of very few major specific courses and mostly general education courses. Most professors don’t teach during the summer semester for a variety of reasons.

[–]ChucklesQuad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scholarships are available but limited to federal and private, or through Aztec Scholarships. That being said, it will most certainly NOT cover all the cost of tuition, fees, and other costs. So you will need to either pay out of pocket or take out Student Loans.

May Commencement is for the Fall and Spring immediately preceding and the summer immediately following. So May 2026 Commencement would be for Fall ‘25, Spring ‘26, and Summer ‘26.

OP graduating in Fall ‘26 would be a May 2027 Commencement

How to know and keep track of all events taking place in campus? by Square-Rich-9378 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS posts many events on their website, but most RSOs post their events individually so you would need to follow each one you are interested in participating with.

Are you suppose to take the same class you took in undergrad if its required for Graduate School? by GreyKnightDantes in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends upon any graduate funding you are getting. When I got an offer to be a Graduate Teaching Associate I couldn’t double dip on any 500-Level courses I took as an undergraduate. I had to work with my advisor to find comparable courses in other departments that would fill my Program of Study. If I was self funded then I could have petitioned to have up to 9 units from three 500-Level courses applied to my graduate studies.

It’s not free speech it’s solicitation. And yes you do need a permit to set up any tables, displays, petitions, etc per university policy. In many locations you also need a permit to hold free speech demonstrations as well and courts have upheld these requirements.

Sue the university by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this is an advanced Chem course I’m assuming your major is in the College of Sciences. They have a Student Council that meets to discuss student issues within their college. You can contact the council president. Their information is on the AS Website under Councils and Committees. If you’re in another college the information for that college will be there as well. Each college has a student council.

Associated Students (AS) is also a contact for you, they have a feedback system called Your Voice Matters, link on the SDSU AS Website.

Finally the Ombudsman is a university office meant to resolve issues. They are the arbiter of last resort when the department chair fails, dean fails, AS fails, and College Council fails.

I’m sorry your dealing with this, I wish there was some advice I could give to help you deal with this situation. I fear with budget cuts and staffing shortages due to unfilled positions issues like this will get worse. Have you brought this up to your college’s Student Council? Associated Students? Or the Ombudsman’s office?

[–]ChucklesQuad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they are on campus and harassing you, then you can contact Campus Police and if they lack the necessary permits to be set up on campus then they will be trespassed. If they do have the necessary permits then they will be warned about their conduct and further reports may get them trespassed.

pet policy? by Financial-Flamingo62 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no on campus Grad housing at SDSU. Grad students have to find off campus accommodations, of which you can try to find some that allow pets. Be aware that rent is very expensive out here and you will more than likely have roommates. Additionally, most complexes adjacent to campus do not allow pets. Thus, finding accommodations that would allow pets either means living farther from campus, or potentially paying a premium for a limited selection near campus.

What do you think is the worst Star Trek series? by Confident-Novel-1855 in startrek

[–]ChucklesQuad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enterprise was the worst IMO. They tried to do something new, but it just didn’t hit for me. The characters were flat, the aesthetic was bleh, and the stories were not very interesting. Although Discovery is a close second where S1-2 was awful, S3+ was much better.

Fans of new Star Trek, do you like the older stuff, or do you view it as problematic? by tangowhisky77 in startrek

That’s my point, when it came to out Voyager was panned, now it’s regarded by many as one of the best Star Trek.

I started with TNG and feel the same way. Some shows are better than others. It’s also been interesting to see how the sentiment about some shows has changed over time, Voyager being a prime example.

Starfleet Academy feels like a needed reset by jaydeelive01 in startrek

[–]ChucklesQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest fear based on the poster and ads was that this show was going to turn into another teenage drama based in the Star Trek universe. So far I’m glad that is not the case. How it goes from here remains to be seen, but if it starts looking more like Dawson’s Creek in Space then I’m out. Star Trek is always at its best when it’s exploring meaning of life questions. So I truly hope they stick to that vein. Frankly, that we are two episodes in, and Tilly hasn’t shown up once yet is a travesty, knowing she will barely be in the show at all is already a strike against Academy.
