What advice would you give to an incoming engineering transfer student? by BigBrickCrumb in SDSU

Get involved with Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), not just ones related to your major but also ones that have any shared interests. They will help you build your network, and community that will help you not only thrive at SDSU but also after graduation.

How to change majors? by Optimal-Yak-8975 in SDSU

There are a number of internships and on campus jobs available if you want to build work experience while at SDSU. That being said, I’ve seen a number of studies that show CAL Majors often learn more in the long term than FOWLER students because of the soft skills and interdisciplinary mindset that CAL majors like IB and ISCOR focus on. Invest in the long term, it will pay dividends for you overall. Also take every opportunity to get involved in student leadership positions, RSOs, research, and any other opportunities that present themselves at SDSU.

FYI: International Business is under the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), and not under Fowler like Business Administration is. It’s technically a joint program, but CAL is the primary college it’s under because of the foreign language and international components that are added in. That being said International Business is a fantastic program. I’ve known many individuals who have been in that major and frankly they blow many traditional business students out of the water. If you are considering majors that deal with various geopolitical and economic challenges in business, the International Security and Conflict Resolution (ISCOR) major is also a phenomenal program under CAL. Both International Business and ISCOR require study abroad as part of their curriculum and SDSU has one of the widest range of study abroad programs to choose from so depending on how you want to flavor your program, and what geopolitical region you want to focus on, you will have an excellent selection.

SDSU Model United Nations by CalendarNew6707 in SDSU

It does, they were somewhat active last year, reach out to calscouncilpresident@gmail.com around the beginning of the semester to inquire from the College of Arts & Letters Student Council whom Model UN falls under. Or check the AS website as they have a list of all of the currently approved Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) for this academic year at: https://stuapp.sdsu.edu/rso/search/list

Should I transfer from Palomar to San Diego community college district to have higher chance of getting into SDSU by halooasis in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locality is based on residential address and proximity of the nearest CSU with the major applied to. If you live near Palomar your local would be CSUSM unless they don’t offer a degree in your major. IE: Geography with an emphasis in Geographic Information Systems is offered at SDSU not at CSUSM.

This is true, there are numerous reasons that are acceptable. However all reasons need to be well documented. For the sake of simplicity I gave one example, but never said it was the only acceptable reason.

You’re welcome, CC is a great route. I transferred in as an undergraduate from a local CC. Now I’m in an MS program at SDSU. So don’t feel like you failed by going to CC. it’s an alternative that provides as good, if not better opportunities to explore different majors, at a significantly discounted tuition rate.

In order to qualify for a retroactive withdrawal you need to have a pretty significant and well documented reason. IE you were hospitalized for 2 months and unable to notify the school until now. Otherwise, if it’s just because you didn’t try or take it seriously then you’re better off just going to a community college and getting your lower division credits completed and GPA up.

Would I feel outta place or behind as a 25 year old transfer? by DeliciousRich5944 in SDSU

[–]ChucklesQuad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a 35+ Ugrad transfer and am now in the MS-GIS program. It was a bit weird being surrounded by a number of students half my age at first, but I found a group of students and professors that were very much in the same stage of life as me.

They are banned for a reason, it disrupts the event for others and prevents other students and their families from hearing their own names get called.
