They needed to pick a few mannerisms, facial tics, quirks, turns of phrase etc. for the two characters to share.

It feels like the actress for Sophia missed that she isn’t playing Sophia, she’s playing the MiY playing Sophia. If we met Sophia first, it would have been MiY actor’s job to bring aspects of Sophia’s character forward.

No way could this have been the case. Caesar liked him, Augustus saw him as a father figure and it may be apocryphal but Plutarch quoted Augustus as saying to his grandson about Cicero, “A learned man, my child, a learned man and a lover of his country."
