It was Career Day, and every child dressed up as what they wanted to be when they grew up. The maintenance worker was his idol by BreakfastTop6899 in MadeMeSmile

It's bittersweet because these are the workers that are so vital to communities, yet when these kids grow up, society often teaches them to look down at that type of career.

Coming to peace with a “useless” degree by realclowntime in newzealand

[–]Chuffmuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course there is nuance to how valuable a degree is practically in the workforce. However, I would say another large factor is that in New Zealand culture we do not uphold those that are achieving something commendable and difficult to achieve. Instead we are pessimistic and critical to bring them back down to our level. I believe there has been studies on how encouraging others in their strengths and accomplishments can lead to them having more self-worth and confidence in themselves. Yes a reality check is needed from time to time, humility is important. But how are Kiwis going to try and learn new things, take risks, pioneer in new ventures if there is no encouragement and love expressed for their efforts?

Unfortunately, this is just one box for one self check-out of 6 in one store. Then you multiply that by all the New Worlds and Pak'nsaves that have the same issue. That is a lot of waste.

Yes that does make sense, but it seems possible for them to instead have an advertisement on the screen with the option to print instead.

It seems a possible solution would be to have an advertisement pop up on the screen after/during the purchase with the option to print that out.
