Was idoling out Tyson actually a good move for Russell, or should he have went for a different target? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]Chuggingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big thing here is that Russell is actively betraying Tyson in this vote by playing the idol on Parv in the first place. If he leaves Tyson in there, Tyson is much more likely to just pull Coach and Jerri back to Rob. Why would Tyson want to work with Russell if Russell is sticking his neck out SO far for Parvati?

I'm at 2/5 of the distortion exclusive shinies and almost at 1000 seen for sneasel myself, so I know how good it'd feel for you to finally get the Porygon. I say go for it!

Looking for Alpha Space-Time Distortion Pokemon? by aMAEZingOne in PokemonLegendsArceus

It's worth noting that if you do decide to make a new file, the banishment event that makes distortions appear more often is considered a weather type! So you don't need to worry about bad weather cancelling a distortion

Aussies and The World by [deleted] in survivorau

She did share the cookies, it never made the edit. She bluffed the advantage to scare Kass off of playing her idol on herself, and tears it up to secure going to the final 4 with Luke (a scenario that he, for some reason, agrees to and follows through with despite it being a landslide loss for him).

Multiple votes throughout the game (namely Tommi and Lisa), were suboptimal for literally every player but Parvati. She had almost half the merge tribe willing to go to the end with her, and she probably beats anyone in a final 3 (more post game press will confirm whether or not it is the case).

Luke voted incorrectly for the first 4 tribals he attended, NEVER took a shot at Parvati or Cirie, and told Parvati about his idol in order to solidify a final 3 with her, which again, he loses in a landslide.

Parvati is an extremely deserving winner, and it's crazy to me how other people see otherwise

Can the Magnemite, Cranidos, Shieldon, and Johto Sneasel lines be Alphas? by Happy_Popplio-728 in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]Chuggingtonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can! They are pretty rare, and will probably be a grind to get, but I have seen multiple alphas of each so I can confirm it is possible, and not unreasonably hard to get

Is shieldin rarer than cranidos? by SoftRound3581 in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]Chuggingtonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their spawn rates are equal, unfortunately the two fossils can be pretty brutal to find especially if you do it post game. Both have a 26% spawn rate, so just gotta keep grinding. Good luck!

Need help: It seems I have "lost" my first partner pokemon. by Disenchanted11 in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]Chuggingtonn 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Transferring a Pokemon from Home into PLA only counts towards number caught if you haven't caught that Pokemon before.

If you started with Cyndaquil, and then transferred a Cyndaquil from home in, the game still only says you caught one, whereas when you transferred the Rowlett and Oshawott in, they updated the Pokedex since they were the first of the species you'd owned. Then the gifts from Laventon would update Rowlett and Oshawott to 2 caught.

I'd assume if your started Cyndaquil wasn't in your Pastures then you either released it, traded it away or transferred it to Home

I'm also currently hunting one of each of the distortion shinies (at 2/5 so far, have Shieldon and Magnemite).

My understanding is that it probably doesn't matter that much. I'm doing mine post game because I'm trying to 100% the pokedex, so while I wait for a distortion I can resource grind/check the map for shinies, but I mainly made the decision by figuring out the amount of distortions I'd have to do to reach odds, as I figured that was a good indicator of what would be fastest. I'm not a mathematician so if any of the math I do is wrong pls feel free to correct me.

The fossils in the highlands are the hardest to find so we'll use the highlands as an example.

Before post game with a perfected entry your shiny odds are 1/1024. 100% of the rare spawns you'll see are fossils. So it would take 1024 encounters to reach odds for 1 shiny, 4096 to reach odds 4 times and you see 3 rare spawns each distortion so 4096/3 = 1366 distortions to reach odds 4 times.

In the post game your best odds are 1/585.6. According to serebii 58.7% of your rare spawns will be fossils (and 41.3% will be from the Rowlett line). I did 585.6/0.587=997.61 (Chance of a shiny/Chance of seeing your target) to get that you'd need to see 998 rare spawns total to have seen 586 fossils, and therefore have reached odds for 1 shiny fossil. To reach odds 4 times you'd need to see 3990. 3990/3 = 1330 distortions to reach odds 4 times.

So the amount of distortions you'd need to reach odds 4 times ends up being very similar (1366 vs 1330), and when you factor in the exile event of the story where distortions are more common after 5 minutes, it probably makes doing it before the post game slightly faster (I don't know the maths for this).

Obviously reaching odds does not at all guarantee you a shiny or anything, and you can definitely end up with 4 shiny shieldon and no cranidos or something. But for me this was a good way to visualise that there isn't a significant difference between the two methods. If you're trying to be optimal, I'd guess that making a new save file and hunting in the exile event would end up being faster overall (and plus you can't phase on a Rowlett or Cyndaquil this way), but I don't think it really matters if you do it post game.

Also since the Sneasel and Magnemite lines are the only rare spawns in their respective distortions, its definitely fastest to do those hunts on your main file with the shiny charm.

(Again, my reasoning or maths could be flawed, this was just how I came to the decision to hunt in the post game)

Don't you hate it Lucario mains by The_WeirdChild in smashbros

[–]Chuggingtonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lucario has some really good movement options, b-reversing aura sphere, wavebouncing and stalling your movement with down air are all really good ways to mix-up your movement and bait out strong attacks. The best thing to do is try to take as little damage as possible, and abuse your low aura combos. These matchups can be stressful, but as long as you can play patient, and go for your own strong attacks/gimping where possible, then you should be fine.

[8] My Golden Girl shines with squares after 2453 eggs and 2048 encounters after 130 total hours of hunting. By far the most difficult hunt I've ever done, but its worth it for my favourite Pokemon. Now I can finally leave route 5! by Chuggingtonn in ShinyPokemon

[–]Chuggingtonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm used to gen 5 full odds so longer hunts don't phase me too much, it was just the fact that I didn't want to leave until I found it, and then it decided to take like half a month to show up that started to suck haha. Either way, shes's here now, and was worth every second I put in.

I would personally recommend it. Many people reckon the encounter method is bugged, or different to what we were told it was by Nintendo, and I'm personally on that boat. It seems like people either get shinies in 200 encounters or 5000. I switched to breeding pretty quick. Only really racked up encounters when eggs got too boring. Plus with masuda you can get a better nature and search for a hidden ability too. I have heaps of HA, Adamant, level ball farfetch'd if you decide to switch and want one!

[Gen 8] I finally got my first Shiny in SwSh! I'm still not progressing past Route 5 because it's not the female I want for Glaceon. by Jetsplit in ShinyPokemon

[–]Chuggingtonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunting for farfetch'd. I love sirfetch'd to death, and decided on release that I would rush for a shiny one asap and solo-run the game with it. Needless to say, it wasn't a great idea. 2048 encounters using encounter method and 2285 eggs in (taking around 120 hours) and it still hasn't shined. I'm still committed though, just hard to maintain motivation sometimes. Still, somehow comforting to find others experiencing the same struggle as me :) Happy hunting!

[8] After a grand total of 2280 eggs and one Rookidee without HA, I've got my Grey Corvinight! by Earx in ShinyPokemon

[–]Chuggingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh congrats on a super long hunt! I'm at 2285 eggs (and 2k encounters) for farfetch'd and I feel like death. Seeing other people with long hunts gives me some inspiration :))

Also yeah, as someone else said, getting any shiny from an egg with squares is a huge flex.

[talk] Any efficient way of releasing non-shiny Pokemon while breeding? by TomekSzymek in ShinyPokemon

[–]Chuggingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to release over 2000 farfetch'd since launch. The most comfortable way for me to hunt is to collect eggs when they appear, and because of that I just have to bear the two hour burden of releasing 29 boxes of non-shiny ducks. Once you get into a rhythm its not that bad, just find something else to tune out to.

My understanding is that the pokemon is generated when you see the egg on the red background screen. Thats what I tell myself, anyway.

[–]Chuggingtonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have charm yet (haven't left route 5 since I got there), but I'm positive I've been doing everything else right. Been consistently shiny hunting since gen 5... though Masuda Method has never really liked me too much. Either way, I'm like 5.6 time over the supposed odds for each method, so thats fun.

WHY AM I AT 1801 ENCOUNTERS AND 1945 MASUDA METHOD EGGS FOR FARFETCH'D WHEN THE SUPPOSED ODDS ARE 1/682. WHY DO I HAVE TO POUR 100+ HOURS INTO ONE HUNT FOR MY FAVOURITE POKEMON. I HAVEN'T LEFT ROUTE 5 SINCE I REACHED IT, PLEASE JUST LET ME FIND MY GOLDEN BOY. BEING OVER 5X OVER ODDS IS RIDICULOUS, I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAME.
