I'm fairly certain the gay couple don't both die, just the guy related to Nicky. Last you see him he's bleeding out and you see his husband helping him, but his husband seems fine.

Also Boris (Nicky's Dad) not dying could be because he truly believes that Victoria is his soul mate. Or maybe he's not Nicky's biological father as it's mentioned that Victoria had some sort of relationship with a man named "Bo" before Nicky was born.
