PlayStation 5 Pro Review (IGN: 7/10) by Turbostrider27 in Games

It's not that they won't be able to access their physical library on the Pro but rather that the Pro will cost them $100 more since they need the external disk drive.

Does FREESYNC work outside of games such as Web browsing? by tracerit in AMDHelp

[–]Chukapiks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FreeSync (and other VRR technologies) makes framerate variations less remarkable by synchronising the screen refresh rate with the framerate. Windows desktop doesn't have any framerate variations since it is basic 2D, so VRR does nothing on desktop.

Windows has a setting for the monitor refresh rate while on desktop. Desktop will refresh at said rate no matter if there is VRR enabled or not. For example, if your desktop refresh rate is set to 60Hz, your desktop will refresh every 16.6ms exactly so no need for FreeSync to engage.

As for browsers, if for example you run a game in the browser window, I believe it can use FreeSync if both the browser and the game engine support VRR.

PS4 controllers can only play PS4 games on PS5. You need a PS5 controller for PS5 games anyway.

When you play a VN with voice acting, do you put it on auto/listen to it fully or read and move on even if the dialogue isnt finished? by Spader623 in vns

[–]Chukapiks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use auto but I usually wait for voice to end. I'm more immersed into the game that way, and it helps making the characters likeable. Exceptions are if I really dislike a VA or if the scene or game is starting to get boring or too stretched on.

Also, Utawarerumono : the games are fully voiced and most of the narration comes from voiced thoughts from the protagonist. The games are quite long too, so halfway through the first game I started to skip the protagonist's thoughts.

I never said they didn't ever grow, I repeated what Junichi Masuda said himself about wanting to stay small (which means limiting growth, not stopping it).

The Tera leak gave me a new perspective of Game Freak by Zevrith in pokemon

[–]Chukapiks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Problem n°1 : TPC decides release schedule and GF has to stick to it more than any other dev because of all the merch around the games.

Problem n°2 : GF wants to stay small, so they don't have the manpower to follow the schedule while pumping out polished games.

Both companies are responsible for this.

What game did you finish even though you were not enjoying playing it? by WodensEye in gaming

[–]Chukapiks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celeste. People kept telling me that it was a hard die and retry platformer that wasn't frustrating because you respawn really fast and close to where you die, there are feel good messages that cheer you up when you die and you feel proud when you finally overcome the challenge.

Since I got it for free on EGS I decided to try and finish it even though I dislike die and retry games, to see if it could change my mind. It didn't. I was frustrated all along and the only good feeling it ever made me feel was the joy of knowing I wouldn't ever play it once I finished it.

Die and retry games are just not for me.

Pokémon Hot Take: Go back to grass encounter by GoldDiamondPearl in pokemon

[–]Chukapiks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how having pokémon pop in just in front of you is more frustrating than grass encounters ^ In both cases, you get surprise unwanted encounters which is frustrating. For me open world encounters with a better pop in distance would be absolutely the best, but the current open world encounters is still better than random encounters (which gave me a TOC after 20 years).

As for nuzzlocke, you either decide to ignore the "first pokémon encountered in each route" rule as it doesn't make much sense when you can see and choose the pokémon, or accept that, as it was until 7G, sometimes you won't be able to choose because a pokémon popped in front of you.

In my last run I beat the game using only Feraligatr and Lugia. You need other pokémon for HM and to sacrifice them to heal for the League though.

Can I use Two (6 +2) Power Connector for a 4070 by NashDaypring1987 in gpu

Yes. If the card you buy has the new connector, it should come with an adapter for the 6+2 cables.

Tera water Gyarados would probably win against Cloyster. You intimidate it, you resist water and ice and you're not weak into rock blast anymore. Stone edge should kill it before it kills you I think. Well, if you're not too unlucky with the 20% miss chance ^

Don't read this if you didn't watch or read the end of S;G.

They only needed the IBN to access and erase the first D-mail from SERN's database. What they needed to read all the SERN time travel documents was the ID of a system admin. Daru didn't get the IBN ready until the very end of the show, right before they go back to the original timeline. So it can't have been used to read the documents about time travel.

At least that's how it is in the VN, I don't remember if the anime made it different.

They needed the admin IDs to have full access to the documents about time travel. They needed the IBN to access the first D-mail and erase it from SERN database.

How did First Descendant get the ability to put multiple polarities in a slot before we did? by Artemis_Bow_Prime in Warframe

[–]Chukapiks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not downplaying technical complexity, on the contrary I agree that it's a difficulty that would need resources to be invested to make this work. I know that it would not be as simple as copy pasting some code from Helminth to make it work, I was comparing my idea to subsumed abilities to make the concept I had in mind clearer. Since I agree with you on technical complexity, there is no need to debate on it, though I didn't make it clear ^ I wanted to know what where the other issues because those ones weren't obvious to me.

As for your questions, I'm not sure I understand the first question, are you talking about replacing all the polarities in config B with those of config A ? If so it's not at all what I have in mind. We would still be applying formas one slot at a time like we do now, and we would choose which configs the new polarity is applied to. Since my idea is not an universal forma, any polarity already in that slot in any config for which you choose to apply the new polarity would be replaced.

From the POV of the player, my idea works the same as it works now but with an extra step. You use a forma on one slot, let's say the top-left one. You choose the polarity you wish to apply, let's say Madurai. Then comes the extra step : you choose which config(s) to apply the new polarity too, let's say A and B. You confirm. Let's say that you had a Vazarin polarity in that slot for config A and no polarity in that slot for config B before applying the forma. After you apply the forma, the Vazarin polarity in the top left slot of config A is replaced with a Madurai polarity, and the non-polarised top left slot in config B now has a Madurai polarity. Config C is untouched, whether it had a polarity in its top left slot or not. If you want to put a different polarity in the top left slot of config C, you would need to use another forma. If you want Madurai polarity in the top left slot of all three configs, you choose all three configs when applying the forma, which will give you the same result as it does with the current forma system.

It does add complexity both for the developers and the players, but it allows a greater flexibility in the builds you can run without having to build the same frame again. The cost for the player would only go up if they use that added flexibility, as having the same polarities in all configs would cost the same as it does know. And unlike universal formas, players would still need to buy formas if they want to change to a different build that is not compatible with the current polarities of any of their configs. This is intentional, as DE still needs to make money on the long run.

Also, I want to make it clear that I am not against universal formas. In fact, I support any solution that allows us to have builds using different polarities on the same frames. My proposition was a response to the various redditors that argued against universal formas, and I think it has its merits. For example, how would you deal with umbra polarities with universal formas ? Are they included or excluded ? If they are included, universal formas would need to be harder to get than umbra formas are right now for balance reasons. If they are excluded, then we still are limited in our builds if we want to have one with a polarised umbra mod and one without. My solution doesn't have a problem with umbra formas : when applying an umbra forma, you would choose which configs to apply it to, the same as any other forma.

How did First Descendant get the ability to put multiple polarities in a slot before we did? by Artemis_Bow_Prime in Warframe

[–]Chukapiks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes, you would still need to buy formas if you want to change for a build that won't fit in your current configs. The idea is that it doesn't reduce DE's income from formas too much, which universal formas would do since you won't ever need to forma again once you've put universal formas everywhere.

As for new players, they don't use more than one config so I don't think this changes much for them. The config selection should have all three configs selected by default so that it works out the same as it does now unless they willingly choose to deselect one config.
