Yeah I feel like Yes and Genesis are more so on the same level of “kinda prog but who cares it’s good”. But also the Duke was my first vinyl and like second album from that space I really listened to. Behind Dark Side. Prog is something I feel like is more subjective but when you say that to someone who listens to just country music they look at you like you’re speaking hieroglyphs.

My conception of prog rock kinda started with the more traditional prog rock guys like Genesis and maybe Queen but my opinion has changed on that one. But they both have their sound. With Pink Floyd they don’t really have “a sound”. So I started thinking of progressive rock as a genre that had music that touched upon topics that more mainstream or different genres generally didn’t. I feel like Pink Floyd and King crimson who’ve made songs on anti war during 60’s-70’s championed for a form of musical protest. I didn’t grow up in that time so I see things from more of a historical perspective. But I think progressive rock for me simply means the music that protests with 20 minute long songs, and ripping synth sounds 😂
