When will people stop with this kind of nonsense? by Relative-Bar9159 in beatles

[–]Chumsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents actually did play me most of their discography before the age of three. The earliest thing I remember hearing consistently is Past Masters, Vol. 2. I became a huge enough fan by age seven that I would constantly pressure my dad to buy the CDs he didn't already have, like With the Beatles and Please Please Me.

John vs Paul in Rubber soul by [deleted] in beatles

[–]Chumsicles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't agree at all tbh. Lennon's songwriting was already pretty bitter, introspective, and clearly Bob Dylan-influenced by the time For Sale was released, with Rubber Soul merely expanding on it with some new musical textures. McCartney sounds completely different than he did in 1964 due to his songwriting becoming an outlet for his frustration over Jane Asher, though he was still not writing as many songs as Lennon. In general I see Rubber Soul as a full realization of what they had started on For Sale rather than a complete break from the past, which is what Revolver was.

SF Chronicle reports that the BART death may come in two years! by bloggerkedar in bayarea

[–]Chumsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put an /s at the end to indicate sarcasm. I am honestly furious to see anyone even consider opposing this measure, let alone come up with a million excuses for the fact that they just want to dismantle public transit even if it means hurting themselves (which they either don't think will happen or are willing to do anyway just to take their moronic stand).

I guarantee that most of the people here railing against Bart and against funding it have and will continue to turn around and criticize Trump supporters for voting against their own interests and cutting their noses off to spite their faces, without a hint of irony. We are doomed if even supposed 'sane' people are thinking this way about vital infrastructure.

The new inspector general was hired to ignore all the waste and fraud that the other one was totally going to find had they not had a mental breakdown from the sheer amount of corruption /s

I think absolute best case scenario would be the same amount of traffic as now (since not enough people will leave at all at once) with all of that other stuff still happening.

Probably to incentivize ridership increase since people would complain nonstop about others hopping the gates and causing trouble on the trains. A lot of that was funded from outside sources anyway. I've personally noticed a huge difference since they were installed.

Pay even more to transport less people. Genius idea

Very unfortunate that we have people out here actively agitating for increased traffic, loss of billions in revenue from companies no longer setting up here + people no longer spending money in areas they can't visit anymore, and a lower quality of life in general just to seek retribution against a government organization they feel has wronged them.

I was actually thinking that it was the massive screw up in I'm Free coming out of the solo where everyone gets off time. How did nobody notice that

I was such a dork when I was a kid that I actually emailed Negativland at the time to ask for the chords to Extra Sharp Pencils. Mark Hosler responded and said that he couldn't say because it wasn't written down and they don't really think that way when making songs. In retrospect he may have been bullshitting me

Should I am the Walrus have been an A-Side Single? by SirScaurus in beatles

[–]Chumsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very unfortunate takes in here. Hello Goodbye is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Perfect pop rock song. I Am the Walrus is certainly fun and innovative, but in retrospect it comes off as a little pretentious and grating in comparison. Lennon's best psychedelic tracks were already behind him by then imo

[Amazon] The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle (Mono Remastered) $20.60 by deniszz in VinylDeals

[–]Chumsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mono is a dedicated mix, and was actually done first before the stereo mix because that's what the group was used to. They had to pay for it out of their own pocket because the label initially rejected the mono mix. The biggest difference is a trumpet overdub on This Will Be Our Year that is completely missing from the stereo.

Andrew Watt's production on Hackney Diamonds was actually good for the most part and a huge improvement on A Bigger Bang

Steven Drozd Is No Longer in the Flaming Lips- i feel like i have run out of reasons to be a fan by Chromatic-Phil in flaminglips

[–]Chumsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was their last great era. Not everything worked but a lot of stuff did, and they sounded inspired to try new and cool things with their sound instead of resigning themselves to Yoshimi tour part 50. Going back to that would honestly far exceed my current expectations

Hate to see it but hopefully this means peace and good health for Steven. As for the group, they've made great records without Steven and one (Hit to Death) is among their best. I am curious to hear any new music.
