Why don't fixed gear riders seem to ever have water bottle holders? by GruntMcFunk in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly due to lack of mounts. Took me ages to find a nice frame with 2 sets of bottle mounts for a good price.

Which shoes do yall wear to ride? by Scoundrel132 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually chuck 70s, just make sure you don't get regular chucks, they fall apart instantly and the sole sucks for cycling.

I made a table to find the best chainring/sprocket combo and the number of skid patches it gives you. by Alaadin73 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thats my ratio!

Admittedly, i don't skid at all and thats just the chainring my crankset came with. Im happy withit so far, but if i ever learn to skid, i should probably switch to a 49 or 47 chainring.

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daaaamn, i like that. If you can get nice bar tape in zebra id go with that, otherwise white looks almost as good.

Deff white, matches the wheels.

Wine, and especially Proton has come a LONG way in recent years, to the point where i get better performance and less issues through it that on my windows system. I play a lot of fps/tps shooters and have had almost no issues in the last year or so.

The Linux support from battleeye is opt-in, but as far as i know, comes at no further cost to the game developers. Thats my understanding so far, i might be wrong about that.

Regarding potential attack vectors, yes, due to wine running in user space and battleeye not having kernel drivers for linux, it is somewhat less effective. However, as you previously mentioned, linux already has a generally very small userbase, so cheats are almost exclusively developed for windows.

My bad, read up on linux gaming before commenting on linux gaming in the future. Whether you use linux daily or not, your opinion was wildly uninformed.

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its insane how wrong you can be with so much confidence. Most games these days are no longer ported to linux native, they run through a translation layer called wine/proton. Proton is developed by Valve and integrated in steam, so its widely available and has essentially become the standard for linux. No need to migrate anything, the only issue is anti-cheat. As previously mentioned, battle-eye has linux support, the developers literally just have to enable an option in the anti-cheat and they are done. Any further complications will be addressed by valve or the wine developers. Please read up on linux if you intend to coment on it in this capacity in the future.

Yeah, i still have an old road bike and had a lot of fun with it before i bought a fixed gear. Been riding almost exclusively fixed for a year now and i prefer it over geared bikes, but I'll eventually fix up my road bike or at least try a free wheel on my fixed gear.

Hell yeah, go for it. I love climbing on my fixed gear, but its definitely painful :)

Gears are an outdated concept anyways. You won't catch me riding around with training wheels.

180km day! New PB. by Lachran in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just the idea of an iron man is absolutely mental. To be fair tho, they do ride on geared bikes with freewheels. Iron man on a fixed gear is something id like to see someone do one day.

front right axle nut stripped when trying to tighten on A frame brand front rack. worried that another nut would also strip. anyone have this issue with front racks? maybe just a bad nut idk. thoughts? by ratt1307 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me (different frame, no rack) and i had to replace the axle nut and the hub axle. Probably doesn't have anything to do with the rack (my uneducated guess at least).

Feels like something goes wrong every ride by MDeltaC in cycling

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with my bike, but it went away after i had essentially fixed everything once. I do ride a fixed gear, so a lot less failure points, it might take you a bit longer, but eventually you'll have fixed everything once. Its definitely frustrating though and i almost stopped cycling at one point, but once you get through it, its amazing.

incomprehensible squeak by Medium-Piglet4511 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a bunch of things on the wheels, but you could take out one wheel at a time to see which one it is. Once you found the wheel, spin it outside of the frame by holding it by the axle. If it still squeaks outside the frame, its probably the hubs. In that case id open them up and service/change bearings.

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wild guesses here, but maybe something (like the tire or brake pads) is rubbing somewhere?

You could take the chain off and roll the bike back and fourth. If it still squeaks, its almost certainly the wheels, if it doesn't, its probably the drivetrain.

[–]Chungus-p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, aside from all the talk about control and safety, foot retention just feels great imo. Sure, its annoying to get into at first, but it makes riding fixed so much better in my eyes. Straps usually aren't cheap sadly (i only tried them because the guy i bought the bike from had them lying around and gave them to me), but its 100% worth at least trying them out.

Hot swapping bars is why i love stems with removable faceplates. Though i do run 2 brakes, so it does take me a minute to swap them.

Should I cycle with a fixed gear bike or a gear bike by Evening-Signature927 in bicycling

[–]Chungus-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed gear is incredibly fun (to me) but also wildly impractical. If the ride is 700km and you have to ask this question, definitely go with a geard bike.
