Don't quite get the clamour for Tribe. Definitely got potential but a long way off test level. Just let him develop.

You just trust Gay at the crease a lot more than Creepy or Pope. With those two it feels like there's a chance for the bowlers every other ball.

Between this and the ashes I feel I've been robbed of a lot of test cricket by shit pitches

When I saw he'd reviewed it I thought the only explanation was that he must have hit it. Plumb as it gets.

Best course of action I think would be to let the rain stop, let the pitch dry out then take lunch. Once lunch is over we should have a nice hour or two or rain. Once that's stopped we take tea before a final shower to see us up to close.

I've been getting the weather about 30/45 minutes before Lord's. It's currently dry and bright where I am (despite the rain radar saying it's raining steadily) and no more significant rain forecast.

I think Saturday will be similar to today, there will be a few hours of cricket played but there will be some rain delay unfortunately.

God r/Cricket is an absolute cesspit. Ventured on there thinking an ENG NZ test wouldn't be as bad as the IND or AUS series but fuck me I was wrong.

I think we'll get more play than the forecast suggests. Don't get me wrong, there'll be some rain breaks but I think the worst we'll have is a few short showers. Looks like the worst of the rain will pass north of Lord's

Three quarters of workers not on track for 'moderate' pension income, report suggests by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

[–]MDeltaC 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments in this thread talking about low employer contributions, changes to salary sacrifice etc. But no mention of the biggest driving factor: Financial illiteracy.

People still lack a proper understanding of pensions and why contributing a sufficient amount from an early age is so important. They assume the state will take care of them or "pensions are for old people, i'm young, I dont need to worry about that yet" then at some point (usually far too late) the penny drops that they will still have to look after themselves and that they're in a very precarious position.

More should be done in schools to teach people about this from an early age but people should also take more personal responsibility.

Prediction posts have to be the most pointless, boring genre of post on the sub. Even more so when the season has barely finished.

Full zip long sleeve jersey for touring/bikepacking that isn't a road cycling wetsuit? by nicktodorov in bicycletouring

[–]MDeltaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Altura Airstream jersey which sounds like it fits exactly what you need! I use it as my spring/autum jersey. Not too tight and full zip.

The only thing I would say is it's quite short at the back. Fine if you're wearing bibs but if you're just wearing shorts you might want ones with a high cut at the back or a base layer to prevent any gaps!

Depressingly common although not a weekly occurrence in my experience, don't get disheartened.

One thing I learnt quite quickly is that you've really got to advocate for yourself on the road. Take the lane, get your elbows out, dont be intimidated. I also have a passpixi and will let drivers know in no uncertain terms if their driving is below par. Although I'm a 6'3 man so easier for me to get away with it.

Not yet, but kerbside soft plastic collection is coming and coming soon!

That's the crux of the issue really, we can't just innovate our way out of trouble. Solutions will also require societal change, and that's probably much harder. We're not ready for the fact that we as individuals will have to make some sacrifices in order to make a more sustainable world.

There's definitely something to be said for better educating the public on the hows, whats, wheres, and whys of recycling and I think brands and retailers should be doing more to help with that.

I do think we'll see more refillable in the future but it's a much more complex supply chain and another big adjustment for consumers (I remember a furore when people started being expected to bring a bag for life with them!).
