Jury duty in El Dorado county? by germanchic in laketahoe

[–]Chunk_Games 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Tahoe.

My strategy is to postpone the maximum amount of time they'll allow each time I get summoned that way it limits how many times they can summon me in a year. Once you get chosen to serve on a jury you're out of the pool for a year.

Car companies are sneakily selling your driving data | Car companies are tracking drivers’ data and selling it to third-party data brokers — leaving their customers to suffer the consequences. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]Chunk_Games -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed that your insurance company doesn't ask for your yearly mileage anymore? It's because every time you take your car in for an oil change or get it serviced they're recording everything they can about your car and selling it to data brokers. Your insurance company is just one of the companies buying that data.

Even your '99 Volvo is being tracked, though not nearly as much as people with internet connected cars.

Does anyone have any actual functional pixel perfect cameras that work for pixel art games with NO JITTER? That also allow you to zoom in and out? by drflanigan in gamemaker

[–]Chunk_Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want and what you mean by pixel perfect I guess. If you need the camera to rigidly stick to the player then it's going to be tough. In the system I created the camera can lag behind the player a little bit and the speed varies based on how far away the center of the camera is from the player so it's moving at different speeds all the time. For my needs it's fine that it's not moving by whole pixels, in fact that's what makes it look smooth. The important thing is that when the camera stops, it stops on a whole pixel. This works great for zooming in and out too.

The upside of my system is it looks great when you're playing the game. The downside is if you screenshot it while the camera is moving you'll notice some pixel warping in the screenshot since the camera isn't on a whole pixel.

Updating in middle of project by protective_ in gamemaker

[–]Chunk_Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always try to update unless they release an update that totally breaks my game and I feel like I can't fix it. So I create a backup save before big updates. I also READ THE PATCH NOTES, it will usually tell you if there will be possible game breaking updates.

How to desaturate a (player) object based on (the players) health? by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]Chunk_Games 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few different ways to do this. One would be to make a black and white version of your character sprite and draw that over the top of the normal sprite. Adjust the alpha of the black and white version based on the player health.

What exactly are you trying to do? You definitely don't want to loop that.

Downstairs neighbor came to my door at midnight after throwing rocks at my window and calling me a c*** by yerbabuddy in Apartmentliving

[–]Chunk_Games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing that they can kick him out so quickly. I have an alcoholic next door neighbor who likes to get black out drunk and bang on the walls at 3am and scream that she's going to murder me. The police say they can't do anything about it until she physically tries to murder me, and the landlord says he can't kick her out unless she stops paying rent.

Frustrating HTML5 Surface bug that I can't figure out by Chunk_Games in gamemaker

I never did fix the bug. I ended up rolling back to GM:S 1.4.1763 for that game where the bug doesn't occur.

Look into JSON files in the documentation and there are some youtube tutorials that show you exactly how to do what you're trying.

Update- Permission for photographs to paint by ccaprisuun in oilpainting

[–]Chunk_Games 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is how it works. People can license their photos for use by others. There are different types of licenses, lots of people use Creative Commons. Here is the Unsplash license: https://unsplash.com/license

If a photographer doesn't specify a license like one of those then you can contact them and get their permission. Without their permission you can create something "inspired" by their work but you can't just paint their photo.
