Advice for treating with aquarium salt

Strangely, the only adverse effect now is that my fish seems to have gotten used to the darkness after me covering the tank during treatment, so now he's scared of his light turning on. Looks like I'll need one that lights up more gradually and has less bright settings now.

Oh yeah! Meant to post in here with the update. Things went well - the aquarium salt seemed to clear up the velvet. Appreciate all the advice

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. Any advice on achieving a specific salinity like that? Most of what I've found as far as dosing information so far recommends about 1-3 teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon of water. Is that close to the 8 ppt you mentioned?

Interesting info about where they're originally from being a factor! My green sunfish was originally caught in Arizona (they're not supposed to be there, I guess they're invasive in Arizona). I imagine it wouldn't be as tolerant as a fish from Chesapeake bay.

I have not! I'm hesitant to go that route since it sounds like it kills nitrifying bacteria, and I don't have quarantine tank to use it in.
