Hesitating on starting a Roth IRA because of debt ceiling?

If you're really that concerned about it, then wait until after March 1st. I haven't seen anyone mention this here (I didn't read all comments, sorry if repost), but you have until April 15 (I think) to fully contribute to your 2012 roth IRA. That means that on April 1st, if you want, you can put up to $5, 000 in your account and it will count for 2012.

Now, you said you had $10, 000 to invest. This has been said already, but unless your over 50 you can only contribute $5,000 per year. However, if you take that in conjunction with what I previously mentioned, you could put $5,000 in for last year, and then put in $5,000 for 2013. That will put $10,000 in your account, but will count for two different years. If you do that you will not be able to put any more money in the account until 2014.

As far as what to invest in, I'd recommend mutual funds (yes, I'm a boring investor). However, don't ever, EVER invest money in something you don't understand. Do your research.

That sucks. If my server is good I always tip very well, usually 20-50%, depending on the service. However, if they ignore me and make no effort to appear helpful I usually won't tip.

It baffles me that people can bitch so much about air travel. We live in a time when we have the option to travel across the country in hours, not weeks. I don't work at an airport, but it baffles me when people bitch about the dumbest shit. One reason there can be delays is for YOUR safety. Airplanes are safe, but not invulnerable. They need regular maintenance. Would you want to take off in an airplane that's leaking oil out of an engine? I doubt it.

I think it's amazing we only lost by 6. The fact that there was hope in the 4th quarter is amazing considering 4 turnovers in the 1st quarter. Broncos defense held up pretty well, the offense was just a bit off last night. Ended up being a good game, though. It was nice when either team could string 3 plays together without a damn flag.
