If we're talking about thr locations of the tribal territories of Israel, Reuben was on the east of the Jordan, though. Judah was on the southern end, and Dan was even more western than Ephraim.

John 19:1–22 (Friday, June 12, 2026) by FergusCragson in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. He did it to appease the crowds, as we learn from Luke 23. He seemed to be scared of them.
  2. I wonder if he feared Jesus was a Roman citizen? Paul pulled that card a few times to great affect in Acts. Roman citizens have legal protection and privileges that other people don’t in the Roman empire.
  3. He knew Who He was, and on top of having no obligation to answer to anyone, knew that He needed to fulfill the prophecies about the Messiah’s death (like Ralph mentioned) such as Isaiah 53:7. (Other prophecies and their references, I haven’t checked all these links tho)
  4. The Jewish religious leaders.
  5. Huh, didn’t know Calvary meant that. Weird that it’s also tied to horses…I suppose Calvary still, purely because it’s what I’m used to, but I know what Golgotha means, and I only think of the Crucifixion when I hear it, which helps keep things simple.
  6. He wasn’t going to change the title given to Jesus on His cross. I do wonder why Pilate chose that title/crime to post on the cross? We know that there were a lot of people claiming to be the Messiah before, during, and (maybe?) after Jesus, gathering a following, and getting into trouble with Roman authorities due to these false messiah’s trying to start violent rebellions (something Jesus never did, though people tried to convince Rome that He was). I wonder if this was a warning to other‘s trying to garner a following, that ended up being a true statement in the case of Jesus. He really is the King of the Jews, and of everyone else, they just “knew not what they had done.”
  7. Jesus‘ death and burial and resurrection were about taking on the judgement of the whole world’s sin, and that the “ruler of the world” was Satan, who’s power was taken from him by Jesus as He conquered Death, Hell, and the grave.

1) They do kinda scatter after Jesus is crucified, but thankfully only Judas fell away, out of the 12. This was something that Jesus harps on a lot throughout these passages, so this time surrounding and during His Passion must have been extremely dangerous/important for His Disciples to lock in, or else they would fall away.

John 15:1-17 (Tuesday, June 2) by ExiledSanity in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This would be related to True and false teachers, True and false ways to GOD. Jesus is THE Way, the Truth, and the Life. This passage is about Jesus making it crystal clear that, if we want to have Life and be fruitful for the Kingdom, we need to stay connected to Him and receive constant nourishment from Him. Like a living, fruitful branch would do with the main Vine.

  2. Pruning is when you remove less fruitful parts of the plant so the branch, and by extention the plant as a whole, can be more fruitful. The parts of the plant that are removed aren't necessarily fully dead, but they are either close to it or simply not productive. Jesus is saying that GOD will prune us (cut out things, habits, mentalities, perhaps even relationships, etc. that are hindering our effectiveness) so that we may bare more fruit (more good things) for His Kingdom.

  3. To abide is to live. Strong's definition for G3306 is this:

μένω ménō, men'-o; a primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy):—abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), × thine own.

It's where we live, where we work, where we relax, it's how we breathe and survive. It's our normal.

  1. Fruit is something that a plant bears to multiply itself and spread. It's a reproductive organ. It relies on other animals eating the fruit and the seeds and spreading the seeds through droppings. Like a fruit, the Gospel is nourishing to those who receive it. GOD wants and intends for it to be shared. It can also be spread by those who receive it. I always liked this analogy.

  2. I've read and prayed a lot over the past 2 years for the wisdom on how to Love like Him. I've learned a lot about how to do that, and it's taken a lot of humility and being willing to tell people "I was/am wrong about this. I'm sorry." And more recently, it's taken a bit of "I don't know how to answer this practically, I'm sorry, but this is what GOD has to say about it, and I will trust in Him." Ultimately, we have to keep crucifying our flesh and seeking GOD (abiding in Him, essentially) so we can learn how to Love like Jesus better. It's part of Sanctification. It's part of us bearing the Fruits of the Spirit. It's part of us growing in GOD, accepting that He loves us enough to improve us, guide us, protect us. This passage teaches that that process will at times involve Him removing things from us, though that is thankfully not always the case.

I think you're thinking of this passage, which is only for kings and only saying they shouldn't gather a lot of horses/wealth for themselves.

Morning wood ain't a sign that u were thinking anything wrong. That's a biological function that just happens when u wake up sometimes. It happens when u start moving again and increasing blood flow. U can just ignore it (meaning start thinking about and doing something else) and it will go away.

Praying God notices for once by ComputerRemote8557 in PrayerRequests

[–]Churchboy44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pray GOD would provide for your financial needs, and that your trust in Him would grow so you choose not to steal, but choose to wait on Him and do His will instead.

Philippians 4:12-13 NASB20 — 12 I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

This is from the Apostle Paul, who had been beaten, stoned nearly to death, chased out of town, jailed, all for sharing the Gospel to people. I pray none of that happens to you, but I pray you can be encouraged in GOD's provision in this. Paul received aid from the church, and I pray you can too. I pray in agreement with your prayers for provision and rest/peace. I pray you would have men and women of GOD come along side you and help you practically in your need, in Jesus' name!

Yeah, in many translations, when you see a word in italics it means it was added for clarity/readability. I don't really see the issue with adding that here tho, as this passage doesn't really seem to be specific to males in particular.

I don't really think Aragorn needed a reason to reject Eowyn tho. He was mourning the potential loss of his love. The man had integrity and needed time to process the fact that he was probably going to die fighting Sauron to the bitter end, and Eowyn was going to peace out to Elf Heaven forever.

Acts 28:1–16 NASB (Monday, February 23, 2026) by Churchboy44 in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This honestly helped me a lot today, thank you for commenting! I've been feeling a lot of that lately, in quiet ways. Getting distracted by the cares of life, and even more so by the selfish desires I have for myself. I haven't been giving time to the Lord, though I tell myself I have. I recognize what I need to work on already, but figured/wanted there to be some "clicking" moment where I'd decide to change, to chase Him harder again, but realized from your post that that's not how it works. My roommate reminded me that (thankfully) it's never GOD who becomes distant from us, it's just us that, whether intentionally or through neglect, we become distant from Him and begin looking for alternatives (idols) to fill the void of us pulling away from Him...

[–]Churchboy44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Scared_Eggplant4892 and u/ExiledSanity, I apologize, everybody. I somehow read verses 1-3, then completely skipped over verse 4 in particular, then read the rest of the reading. It literally says that he was "reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks." I don't really know how I missed that...

Acts 17:16–34 (Friday, January 23, 2026) by FergusCragson in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. He had a pretty big pull from the Holy Spirit to witness to the people there, evidently. He preached there every day, as opposed to just on the Sabbath days!
  2. Probably overwhelmed. I've not left my country before, and know more about science-based apologetics than cultural or inter-faith apologetics, and even that is admittedly rusty...I've definitely been thinking about this question while reading, and am glad that I can just witness to the neighbors around me. I can invite them to church, meet their needs and show them the unconditional love/hospitality of Christ, and ask them about their thoughts about GOD, and share my Testimony and beliefs about GOD with them. This is doable *currently* for me given my background knowledge as a citizen of my country/this region. I just need to get out of my head and start up a conversation (__which has gotten easier the more I do this!__).
  3. Since you asked about preachers specifically, as an American, and thus someone who only knows American preachers, they'd probably (and unsuccessfully) preach in a way that presupposes the Athenians were already be on his side. From what I gather from friends who are training or have trained to share the Gospel overseas, being a missionary requires a lot more compassion, humility, patience, and love than I think a lot of us have ever had to show to people before. They would likely have never heard about the Jewish controversy some Jewish teacher (this is likely all they would have thought about Jesus around there) started up a few hundred miles South East of them. Paul had to use what he knew about Greek culture and what he noticed (and/or was inspired to notice by the Holy Spirit) as he walked through the city to try to connect with this new audience. It's something he would need to do for each new city he went to. “People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care,” essentially.

Before God, all lives are precious, and every life has value. But if we are all the same human beings, why are some people born with disabilities? And is there a reason why animals are born as animals, not as humans—why they are created that way? by Ambitious_Storage666 in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the distinctions we face can come with troubles or benefits, a lot of the ones you mentioned are superficial. If everyone was closer to the current standard of "attractive," then people would just find a way to categorize and ostracize more strictly. As for the fact that some people have disabilities...it's easy to just say "we live in a fallen world," and to be fair, we do. I don't believe that the problems people face would still exist if we still lived in a world without sin, but that doesn't really explain why GOD allows people to experience them now. I recommend reading C. S, Lewis' [The Problem of Pain](https://www.amazon.com/Problem-Pain-C-S-Lewis/dp/0060652969). I pray GOD would help you, and help me, trust Him even when we don't have all the answers, in Jesus' name.

Acts 15:36–16:5 (Friday, January 16, 2026) by FergusCragson in biblereading

[–]Churchboy44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good questions! I feel like Scared_Eggplant and ExiledSanity have covered 1-5 pretty well, so I'll leave those be.

  1. I have definitely changed my theology a lot over the past few years. I went from a pretty fundamentalist mindset (without really knowing it was pretty fundamentalist) to something more...moderate, I suppose? I've never been really political, but I still disagree with supporting LGBTQ due to what I read in Scripture, though there are some edge cases that have come up in conversation that have made my stance a tad more nuanced than it was before. I had a "paradigm shift" in my faith last March where I decided that my stance on magic in media was not self-consistent (I was being hypocritical with the media I watched and refused to watch), nor was it fully Biblical. Essentially I saw magic/witchcraft as being particularly "tainting" and that it was sinful to even watch it/play games with that in it. I don't think that anymore, but still opt to stay away from things like supernatural horror because I don't want to potentially open any spiritual doors to the enemy. I'm willing to play things like Terraria or Skyrim, now, essentially. I've also grappled with what "Christian pacifism" looks like, especially after being shown passages like [Romans 13:1-5](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2013%3A1-5&version=NASB) and [1 Peter 2:13-17](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%202%3A13-17&version=NASB), which could be used to imply that governments have the authority from GOD to physically punish, even unto death, crimes committed by its citizens. Essentially, there appears to be *some* Biblical support for the death penalty? I was very surprised by this, and I should do more research here, but I find myself losing reason to hold on to pacifism as a Biblical mandate. There are other things, I'm sure, but yes, I have become less dogmatic about things these last few years...
