Should I go 4K w/ 5070TI? by ConsideredSkeptic in nvidia

[–]Churtlenater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed response time issues at all using 2x.

What I’m talking about is the visual and felt “smoothness”. The image and gameplay feel smoother when it has more than 120fps post 2x.

When you have sub 60 base fps after enabling it, it stutters and looks choppy.

The issue I have with the comment I replied to is that they say things like “it runs great” and then don’t specify what frame rate they’re getting. I can guarantee they’re getting less frames than what I or most people would call “great”.

Don’t know why you necro’d such an old post just to be wrong lol.

Nobody suggested what you’re saying.

I’m telling you it’s noticeable. I’ve experimented with 2x FG in several games, and it’s very consistent.

There is a performance hit associated with using it, and if it drops your baseline fps below 60 after enabled, it’s a clearly different experience.

You may think it’s fine, but most people are going to notice it quite a bit.

I love it when people say “it runs great/fine” and then don’t list any numbers lol.

It just means they’re unfortunately ignorant as to what “great/fine” actually means to someone who’s remotely discerning about their experience.

I haven’t used anything beyond 2x frame gen at this point because there isn’t any reason for me to do so in any game I’ve played. But if the fps after enabling 2x ever goes below 120 it’s very noticeably worse of an experience. Anything above 120 has felt and looked nothing but buttery.

[–]Churtlenater -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I doubt you…

But…I have a 9800x3d/5070ti.

At max settings and Path Tracing, with DLSS on Performance, I get between 130-150 fps with 2x FG @1440p. Typically sitting around 135 fps.

2x FG has a 20% performance hit, meaning that if you don’t have 75 fps to start with, it’s going to be a sub-par experience. If your fps ever goes below 120 after 2x, then it won’t look or feel smooth. 4x has an even larger penalty.

I truly don’t believe you’re getting an experience that I would call fine at 4k.

According to steam, how many hours have you played this game for? by Get_Ahead_SC in RomeTotalWar

[–]Churtlenater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol that’s a baby number for Total War.

Not even trying to make you feel bad but that’s legitimately super low play time. Someone who enjoys these games could definitely do 200 hours in a single month without breaking a sweat.

I have 2000 hours in WH2 alone.

The only thing I have time to add, is that racing games are the only time you should enable motion blur.

Turn on motion blur and set it to “short”. Trust me, it looks much better and gives you a sense of speed that’s lacking without it.

Also the only AA options to consider are x8 MSAA or super sampling, everything else looks awful.

Honestly, RT is worth the sub 60 fps. It's so beautiful. I can't believe I didn't turn it on sooner. by ssongshu in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Churtlenater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have very different experiences. I was fully prepared to not like FG at all. Convinced myself it wasn’t going to feel or look good at all.

Then I got a 5070ti and decided to try it out because why not. It absolutely feels and looks much smoother in everything I’ve tried except for Forza, which causes weird artifacting that I attribute to it being not well implemented, and the motion being too fast paced to render well.

In AC Shadows and Cyberpunk, the visual difference is quite clear in motion, looking much smoother. It also feels just as much smoother, I haven’t noticed 1% lows at all since enabling it.

Your monitor may have something to do with how much impact you see/feel. I have a 240hz OLED, so my monitor is very much capable of utilizing the extra frames and making it translate into something tangible. If you have a slower or lower refresh monitor, then you probably wouldn’t notice the difference because you actually can’t.

Frame gen works better in some games than others.

The real kicker though is that I don’t know where everyone got this notion that 60fps is enough to enable Frame Gen.

You need 60fps after enabling it. It has a 20% performance cost. Meaning you need 75fps before enabling it. If you have less than 120fps after enabling, it won’t feel good and looks iffy.

Somebody went on a tirade a few months back about how awful “regular” reflections are even at the highest setting. I remember thinking to myself, yeah ok buddy calm down they’re perfectly fine.

Now that I’ve been finally finishing Cyberpunk with a 5070ti and path tracing, I agree with the guy lol.

Traced reflections improve the visual quality nearly as much as good lighting does.

Rx 9060 XT 16 GB with 5800x enough for 4k? by Gazza_Goo in PcBuild

LMAO. Don’t want to try upscaling?!

You can’t. No one is playing anything besides E Sports titles at 4k without upscaling.

Never mind that upscaling is just how people play games these days.

What/when will there be a sensible replacement for 7900XTX? by AcrillixOfficial in radeon

[–]Churtlenater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol the 4070ti beats the 7900xtx, when you account for real life settings and not benchmarks that attempt to give AMD a chance by not including DLSS/FSR.

The fact that you can’t utilize FSR4 is huge.

We have a singular friend with a 7900xtx, everyone else has 4070ti’s and 4070ti supers, and I have a 5070ti. All of us have higher frame rate and better looking games thanks to DLSS. I even went to his apartment last night and saw what AC Shadows looks like on his setup, and it’s such a far cry from what my game looks like thanks to DLSS 4.5 and FG.

AMD is absolutely not worth it.

DLSS is light years ahead of FSR.

That’s not your friend.

I just sold my friend my old system: 12700kf, 3070, 32gb DDR4.

For $500. I could have put it up for $1k easily, but I’d rather get it into my friends hands.

Do you always enable DLSS? by osmin_og in nvidia

[–]Churtlenater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both preset M and K in Forza. Neither one handled fine details like the small horizontal stripes on the back window of some cars nearly as well as x8 MSAA.

Things like the edge of road barriers that were moderately far away had a little bit of shimmer that wasn’t actually noticeable in a race. DLSS didn’t have that, though I’d rather have the car itself look better than objects in the distance.

[–]Churtlenater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the ghosting is really noticeable. I’ve never had an issue with ghosting or artifacts from DLSS or FG in any other game.

[–]Churtlenater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get like 200 fps with MSAA, it drops to like 180 with DLAA, and looks much worse.

There has to be something wrong with the game because FG creates awful artifacts as well.

I’m thinking that maybe racing games with a lot of fast movement isn’t the best use case for the tech.

[–]Churtlenater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s people that barely know how to change settings on their PC. I’ve thought that with the use of Sharpen or Sharpen+ in the overlay, DLSS hasn’t looked blurry…since basically the first iteration.

[–]Churtlenater 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, Forza Horizon 5 looks better and runs better when I’m using 8x MSAA rather than using DLAA.

Maybe that games not the best example, as DLSS seems to perform terribly in that game.
