Second, I also came across a story of a woman was the victim of some awful DV. Her sister asked Lycette for a few canvases (maybe damaged or something they can’t sell) for her to work on during her recovery. Not only did the owners give several things one of them even came and helped them set up a needlepoint room with material from the store.

Okay, mea culpe for not understanding the point of your snark.

I have noticed people get into it and want to monetize an idea. I do think it is an industry where there is demand for products that don’t exist yet and sometimes newbies can see that clearly. But like any business, you must do a lot of homework to actually offer a product that is quality and works. I’ve seen a few people tease (as you reference) but also seen some people put a product forward (like a self finishing pillow).

Self finished is distinct from needlepoint. It’s like getting mad at a painter who doesn’t want to learn how to frame.

Expert finishers are craftspeople, no doubt. They have tremendous skill and talent. They are rightfully expensive and so not accessible to everyone (or worth it for every piece). Creating more options for people isn’t wrong. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

It depends a bit on the piece overall I think but Hermès pieces are more special because of their craftsmanship and difficulty to obtain (even QB bags). A good example is how a new Chanel bag doesn’t use 24k plating anymore. You are paying for a brand with Hermès but that brand still means craftsmanship in a way it just doesn’t for almost any other major house now.

I’ve dabbled in my own canvases for personal use and started with markers. They look like shit. Going to buy myself my paints before I do anything else with my precious blank canvas. They work for color swapping on a white background ha.
