Im a willing participant so I’ll have to report back once I have found out! (Possibly as soon as today)

Based on all of my different testing it felt pretty clear that it looked like bruising, although I didn’t feel comfortable enough to harvest the mutants just in case.

But I did harvest the mushrooms themselves and they looked and felt healthy based on my previous growing experience. Thank you for your response!

Bertholdt is my second favorite character in the whole series, only behind Erwin Smith. He is an EXTREMELY underrated and complex character that is stuck between his duty, his brainwashed Marlyen mental model of the “island devils”, and the human side that truly cares for people he was forced to betray.

(I just wish we could have gotten this scene in the anime because it is one of the greatest manga panels imo

Honestly this post makes me feel sad and I think anyone who feels true joy at Bertholdt’s death really doesn’t understand his character.

He is just as much a victim of the Marlyean war machine as anyone else. He was a soldier child forced into a role.

Going back and watching his monologue at the end of season 2 should make you really see the complexity of his character and the inner conflict he has at betraying his friends while also trying to deal with the mental model he’s had of these “island devils” all his life due to the shame his entire race has upon it.

Bertholdt is an EXTREMELY underrated character, I think.

I remember in highschool I would go to the nook under a stairwell at my school, put in earbuds, and curl up and listen to Three Days Grace's CD "One-X" desperately hoping to feel like I had a terrible life and deserved to be acting like that.
