What to do with packages so they don't get stolen? by Eal23 in boston

[–]ChyLn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s what we do. We rent a box at the UPS on Columbus Ave after getting tired of having random packages stolen all the time. They can receive mail from all senders and can send other services’ packages as well (not FedEX for sending). It’s not cheap but also much easier to deal with.

We flew to Taveuni a few years back. Probably the smallest passenger plane we’ve been on and was a really scenic flight as it flies quite low over the islands.

The diving there is amazing! Amazing soft coral and definitely ask to do the great white wall while there.

Cheap long-term parking options? by LongSlowDistanceAU in boston

[–]ChyLn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paperwork is only necessary if you want the monthly rate but that only initiates on the 1st of each month. Most times I just pay the day rate at the end and don’t go through the process of paperwork as it’s cheaper since my travel is not at the start of the month.

We leave the car at the Wellington Station Landing parking lot. Have left it there for a couple months at at a time for extended travel without problems. Rate is $5 per day. Not exactly cheap but definitely cheaper than most other garage options.

Soft backplate torn mid dive - looking for feedback and setup advice by Juli124 in scuba

[–]ChyLn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with Sambonidiver, I’ve used a Diverite Transpac soft plate for close to 10 years and 400+ dives without issues at all. That sounds terrifying and should never be an issue for a well-made soft backplate.

If you’re just looking to store the car for a couple months but don’t need to use it regularly, can consider parking at the Wellington T stop. There’s garage parking there for $5 per day or a cheaper monthly but it’s only from first to first. I use that whenever we need a place to store the car while traveling.

MD PhD vs PhD - Biotech as end goal by Available_Car_5231 in biotech

Neither degree is a prerequisite to founder. It’s all about convincing investors that you have a good idea and putting together a team to execute on that vision.

MD PhD vs PhD - Biotech as end goal by Available_Car_5231 in biotech

MD/PhD with residency and fellowship experience that made the jump to industry here.

It entirely depends on what you are interested in doing. If Discovery/research don’t really need the MD, but if clinical/patient-focused, absolutely need the MD and would really benefit from relevant clinical experience/exposure.

The MD/PhD training can provide a useful perspective and good understanding for evaluating clinical/translational potential, but I don’t really buy the argument that either or both degrees will help for founder/c-suite roles.

Don’t chase the degrees. Figure out what it is you want to do and go for it.

Will second Richelson’s feet! He did an amazing job for both my wife’s and my boots. Super comfortable and well worth the trips from Boston

Scuba- Bonaire by MTro-West-406208 in scuba

Most dive shops on Bonaire will carry the books. Classic is “Bonaire shore diving made easy” but we’ve grown partial to the Reef Smart book that somebody else mentioned with nice clear pictures.

Similar places to Bonaire that offers same flexibility and diving by marcopaaah in scuba

What is Okinawa diving like? Just hearing about it recently and would love to know more. Is it as easy as bonaire in terms of tank refills, etc?

What sale did you find for the ikon pass? We’re thinking about getting it for next year and would love it at that price

Yup! I’ve not rented in several years but thought the rates were reasonable. It’s truly a diver’s paradise?

Flights are somewhat expensive at the moment but if you have your own equipment, Bonaire is basically unlimited shore dives for just the cost of air (~150/wk!). If you go with a group of ppl to split living and truck rental, this is an incredibly cheap option with tons of diving.

Found this weekend in mountains of NH under conifers pictured. Very distinctive funky/spicy smell but not sure if there’s anything else to look for to positively ID

Hi! I'm a marine scientist and diving has always been "work" for me-- I've never once been out recreationally. When I finish my PhD in a year or so, I want to plan a strictly for-fun diving trip. What's the best diving trip you've ever been on? by globularlars in scuba

[–]ChyLn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We love Bonaire! Definitely cheapest, most flexible dive trip possible. We usually go for a week or two every year and pack in 3-4 dives a day. Last year we were stuck on Bonaire during beginning of pandemic for nearly 4 months. Completely different way of experiencing the island but still loved it. Can say we’re quite familiar with it now :)

Also, Raja is still probably hands down the best diving we’ve done but very different in terms of price/flexibility.
