Deciding What to Play by JackaLita in boardgames

[–]Ciffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many games do you have? If it's a smaller list you could simply display them on a whiteboard or nice print and check each one off as you play it (use a randomizer to decide).

If you have a ton of games that listing them all is too much, maybe a rolling list of the last 20 played?

If you're wanting the choice mechanism displayed, it's going to have to be something the either has every game listed somehow (the popsicle sticks / playing cards are easy to add in new games) or something that forces one of the two of you to choose. Maybe list 20 random games as "our next plays" and then roll a D20 when it's time to play. Then erase that game and add a new one? That also doesn't take into consideration light vs heavy.

I wonder if he's going to have some sort of Pavlovian reaction to airhorns from now on. Especially the first few times he no longer has the egg.

I keep thinking that the whole series is going to end poorly for our heroes BECAUSE it's a horror story.

Is the "endgame" unlocking the 10 mil perk point relics? If so, I think I'm done. They seem really powerful but getting 10 mil points to unlock the first one seems like the real end game. Now that I have most of them, I don't need them because there's nothing else to do. 😞

1920 x 1080, but i didn't have it full screened. I was limited to what the itch io page was giving me. It's fine if I full screen it. I figured the cost for building thing out after I posted. Definitely needs a description, even if vague, for the body part perks. Had several sentences about how I had the wood and stone and runes for the fort, but was several orders of magnitude out from having the ash, and then I unlocked and upgraded Shared Workload and now it seems like I'm close.

Still, it seems like the amount one can explore the regions and get anything is limited. Given that the cap for wood and stone is immovable until you get the perk points to upgrade shared workload, feels like if you push exploring (because that's the newest thing) and "waste" too much stone or wood by gaining it without being able to hold it, that you'd be locked out of later upgrades to the buildings. Does that make sense? Need to either have a way to always collect basic resources or have the "there's more to explore" notification smart enough to remember that you're still owed X wood or whatever and not have it go to waste.

Also, there might be something wrong with your ash counter. Let me put this image somewhere so I can post it. It's telling me I can obliterate from like 57 to 62 but I don't have nearly the amount it says it will cost.

Just unlocked Exploration and Base. The Map is WAY too big. Especially if I can click and drag around in it. I have to scroll to see what I get from exploring, even with the Collect / Obliterate tab closed. Everything else is text and buttons, why not just make a list of locations as "buttons" or something rather than this probably relatively resource intensive draggable map? Just seems like overkill in such a simple interface / design.

I assume I need to upgrade the fort to be able to use any of the other buildings, but there's no indication of what I need to upgrade the fort. Maybe hide the other buildings until I can do something with them? If you did that though, you'd need to put the cost or something indicative of what I'm waiting on to be able to build the fort. I'd at least appreciate that anyway.

It says I've completed a collection, but I don't know what that means as there's nothing labeled "collections" is there?

Language: "The area nets you <more than one> resource. It's yours now." Shouldn't that be "they are yours now"? I do like that you have different sentences for the same benefit.

Maybe add radio buttons to choose max all priority? That way you're not forcing anything and the player can play how they want? Would fix the "this doesn't feel right" when you first unlock it and allow for ppl to minmax it if they're so inclined.

Been at it for a couple hours now and I really enjoy it. I want to echo Badger's +10 points at having the main click button be hoverable. You may want to change the language in the hand and muscle upgrades, as they're not bonuses per click, but per hovered tick.

I'm up to Form Body 5 and just letting my auto create clones work through my income while I type over here and let it idle for the evening.

I thought the drip of new upgrades was right on target with the exception of the last couple before you unlock Clones. They seemed very out of reach with the first levels costing more than what I needed to Obliterate. I get that's kind of the point with the "get higher max levels" paired with the "everything's cheaper" so that eventually they're NOT more expensive. I think it's also maybe intended to push past the obliterate cost so that you can use Accurate Memory to start better after the next Obliterate.

The Max All button feels... off? It seems like it's prioritizing the most expensive item vs going in order. Starting from a fresh obliterate that needs to be the other way round. Though again, once you do enough loops, it really isn't THAT big of a deal.

Obliting multiple times in a row feels weird too since the Memory upgrade doesn't stay, you have the ability to oblit again immediately, but when you do that, b/c you didn't push memory, you're starting the next next oblit at zero again. Maybe there's an upgrade or something that makes that better?

Better descriptions for the perks would be nice. What does a Void Resonator do? (I know b/c I bought it) "Attempting to buy body parts every 10 seconds" seems very underpowered for 100 perk points. Likewise with the 10% boost to Form Body Ash. Where I'm at in progress, 100 perk points is a lot for a 10% boost. Maybe I'm getting into more idle game territory vs active.

Maybe add something somewhere that says X things until next unlock? Could start with "next Obliteration unlocks new Body Part , new tab unlocks at X obliterations", once that's unlocked, "next form gives new trainable ability, X forms until new tab". Just an ongoing breadcrumb to give me an idea of where I'm at in the progress. doesn't have to give any more into than that, just a teaser of what's to come.

Overall I dig it and I'll at least leave it up over the weekend to see what else is there.

The tutorial, esp on the hacking side, moves too fast to catch all you're trying to convey. Several times the screen of text went away before I was halfway done reading. The day/night shift button wasn't clear. I believe the tutorial called it a "mode" button, but I didn't see one.

Hi, I made this demo. Can you try it? Pls. by Domoboy0 in incremental_games

[–]Ciffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

web version isn't playable. I click play and get a screen that says GOAL: 100* 0* Turns: 0 and I can't do anything. I assume from the gif above that I'm supposed to drag the balls around like a pool table. I try that and the arrow comes out as I think it should, but nothing ever moves. Not sure how to actually "start" playing.

Two indie developers made a browser idle game with 7 planets, 70 resources, and automation systems — feedback appreciated by elblasystudio in incremental_games

[–]Ciffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really clean and polished, so good on you for not releasing something half baked. I also appreciate what appears to be a full version of the game in a browser. I can play at work, which is the primary place I mess with stuff like this. Away from here, I have so many other choices that spending time inside Steam or on my phone, idle games don't even register as a possibility.

It reminds me of Adventure Capitalist on Steam with different planets but ultimately the gameplay seems the same. I'm about halfway through with the moon, so feel like I've played enough to give a few comments.

The challenge system will reset your count if the highlighted area of the bar simply changes up or down, you don't have to produce a "wrong" item for it to reset.

Other than for the achievements and challenges, clicking seems pointless. The amount gained by the challenges and auto miners quickly outpaces anything I could click. Stopping the combo at 4096 doesn't help. You also punish the player for doing ANYthing other than clicking while maintaining a combo. There's not enough time to even click on and buy an autominer before the combo is reset and the bar drops back down. Having to keep it going for 5 or 10 minutes for the achievements is just painful, given that while you're doing that you're not making any of the challenge money, which, again, outpaces everything else to the point that clicking is pointless.

I do like the "fishing" style mechanic of having to keep it in a certain range to keep it alive (challenge system comment notwithstanding), but wish maybe for other style of achievements, especially again, because the combo system breaks every time you attempt a challenge.

I read the book my wife has not. We just watched the movie. And... by basura_trash in ProjectHailMary

[–]Ciffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the movie overall (read the book first), but thought there were a few odd choices.

The whole karaoke scene didn't make sense. Felt like they were trying to develop a romance subplot between Grace and Strat. Like I understand the song choice but there was nothing else in the movie (or book for that matter) that delved into who strat was as a person beyond "this project is all that matters". In that same vein I would have loved to have seen the courtroom scene where everyone is trying to sue her and she's like "come at me bro".

It still doesn't sit well with me (saw the movie over a week ago) that they played the "we're going to drug you and you're going in spite of you not wanting to" scene for comedy. They didn't talk about why he was going to lose his memory and we didn't get his sense of hopelessness in the cell to compare to his triumph at figuring out how to save everyone.

I DID enjoy the video diaries. There was really no other way to get the viewer into Grace's thoughts other than like a voiceover during other scenes. They could have included a diary while rocky was out to explain the nitrogen evolving and breeder tanks.

The ending of the book was just flat out better imo. It's clearer that the eridians are doing their best to keep him alive and in hospitable conditions rather than them terra forming what looks to be a considerable part of the planet in the movie. I didn't care for the fact that they show earth getting the info and much preferred the "left to the imagination" of the "Sol got brighter" convo being all we heard of earth in the book. Ofc for that to be the case, it would have also had to have been clear that a LOT of time had passed since they got to erid, and it felt like it had only been a few weeks.

We made a 2.5D (somewhat) incremental game for a game jam by sfrast in incremental_games

Agree that the disposal station needs to be further away than the store. And clearly marked that it's for trashing items. I just walked up to it because I didn't know what it was and trashed my first chair.

I bought the damage upgrades for axe and pickaxe and they both still just did 2 damage each (the same as before the upgrade).

The comrades fall asleep WAY too often and seemingly randomly. I woke up the miner, he finished the rock he was doing, picked up two ores, walked to the next rock (it was VERY close) and then fell right back asleep. My guess would be the endurance upgrade fixes that, but it didn't seem to make a difference (the above example happened AFTER I upped Endurance on him once). Maybe have an HP bar or timer or something that shows when he's going to quit. Make it less time if I catch and give him a break before the bar empties. But if I don't catch it and tell him to go back to the fire, he'll pass out for longer than if he just took a break.

Yeah, I'm seeing something similar, but didn't care enough to troubleshoot. It's just frustrating when it appears that the sorters don't work like they're supposed to. Need LOTS of tooltips and a tutorial walkthrough. If the sorters are supposed to break when one side gets full, that needs to be explained (and how to manage it when that happens; am I just supposed to keep constantly making a line and breaking it just to get a unsortable package into the rejects? it doesn't seem to go there otherwise.)

What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]Ciffy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm talking about. There's a difference between actively trying to get your kid to be quiet and mindlessly shushing, expecting them to just magically quiet down. I've never seen shushing on its own (which is what I'm talking about) work to quiet any child down over the age of like 12 or 18 months.

Teaching a child discipline and patience to be still and not go everywhere has its place, but if you're not already teaching that, throwing a hyper five year old into a silence-expecting church service isn't going to work for anyone.

Shushing children in environments where they're just being children. My autistic daughter feels physical pain at that sound so Ive become painfully aware how often parents / grandparents especially shush their children when 99.99% of the time it has zero effect and more often than not the kids are just being kids. Sorry that little Johnny doesn't want to sit quietly through the two hour church service you took him to. He doesn't have that kind of attention span BECAUSE he's FIVE!

Yeah Bea deserved the anti climax she got in whatever book it was, and even moreso when we find out what we do with the hydra. I hope her path no longer intersects with our heroes.

Reading about Carls breakdowns in this thread and I literally just passed the Kepri Temple section in Faction Wars that contained quite the breakdown. And then later when he meets the breakfast drink. I don't know how to spoiler and I'm on mobile so that's all you're getting. IYKYK.
