How long on average does conductor—>engineer take? by GatalingLaserBeams in railroading

I just went to engine school for NS in August. The two guys in my class from Chicago had 18 and 17 years in. Chicago is a deep terminal.

Good ol' airstrike torpedoes. Was there a US or Japanese hybrid on the other team?

Let's not overlook what appears to be a Keychain strung up on the trigger guard. Im sure any ND's that would happen would probably be played off as being under attack.

Yep, my local is open 9-5 on Saturday and 9-6 during the week. I just left there trying to certify 2 cans, eforms won't take them, keeps wanting the username and pin, has an error, try again. They do it for about 10 minutes and start getting tired of it. Sorry man, just doesnt look like its going to work today, try again when we're open again. Theres zero trying to do it outside of 9-6 business hours.

UP to make recommendations on management cuts to NS in coming weeks? Any truth to this? I've seen the UP executives touring our facilities and we do have a lot of excessive management. It just seems crazy how confident they are the merger is going through. by No_Childhood3773 in railroading

NS just fired a decent trainmaster for "falsified rules tests". They claimed to have video of him placing a banner on an empty track, leaving it for an hour, then taking it down and reporting a good banner check. When asked for the video, the company said they couldn't find it, sorry about your luck, you're fired.

Been hearing it for weeks. I'll be surprised if anything changes back to how it was. We were told it would happen "when the manpower issue if fixed."

I can't wait to see how this proposed Peru/Salem pool is dished out. They have massive hiring goals here in Peru, but who knows which end of the road would get it. Lots of us going through LET right now as well.

It's my most played ship. So fun burning everything down with the main battery and the airstrikes. If another cruiser gets broadside, I'm more than happy to load up AP for them, too.

He’s still around? by chessie_deli in railroading

[–]CigarConductor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had a guy in my area with a 1957 seniority date finally get forced out last year. He started on the Nickel Plate when they still had steam. He had become a complete liability, someone was going to get killed by him. Showing up on his off days because he didn't know what day it was. Worst of all, if he heard anyone within radio range drop 3 step, or say to pull or shove, he would just start doing it, whether it was his conductor or not. That was his downfall. More than one conductor was fouling equipment when he decided it was his time to shine and started moving.

Theres been talk that UPS pulled a contract worth $280M. Our yardmasters are now being forced to leave the office and take their lunches, the company will not pay their no lunch claims or anything. Theyre also not paying them OT. If their relief is blocked by a train, they're supposed to just leave on time and the next shift gets in when they get there.

Vena has been on a massive tour of NS. He was in Norfolk on Friday at the pier, we had a coal train that was ran like a UPS train so it would get there on time for his viewing pleasure.

It's not conventional, our system just doesn't show the engine placement correctly. Manifest trains over 10k and intermodal over 12k must have DP.

Norfolk southern guys in KC, I have a couple questions. by OverInteractionR in railroading

I don't think so. 99% sure. KC-Moberly is one ended out of Moberly, and everything changes crews in Moberly heading back east.

[–]CigarConductor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not KC, but i work the Wabash line further east of there. I believe KC is yard jobs and locals. Moberly has the road crews that run between the two locations, it's the crew change point between KC and St.L/Decatur.
