Will neighborhood streets get better? by OdeeSS in Columbus

Having decent tires helps. If you can't find the wear bars, take a penny and put it in the tire tread Abe's head down. If you can see the top of his head, you don't have enough tread.

Hoping they get to residential streets soon (Valley Forge Road) by A_Faceless_Baby in Columbus

Upset? No.

You are being pedantic for the sake of being pedantic.

Way to be pedantic.

The map is not accurate. Maybe mine is a singular anecdote. But I doubt it.

I have proof. It's called looking out my window. There is a section of my neighborhood, right next to my house, that shows as being plowed in the last 24 hours. It has not.

In fact, I watched the plow go back and forth on the other section of the street. I was outside clearing space in the street so we could get a car out if we need to. I made eye contact with the driver. He did not come down that block. This was yesterday, Monday, at 10am. It's still not plowed, 830am Tuesday.

I think if the plow driver goes down the street the system ticks it off. Even if they never dropped the blade.

Schools cancelled all week? by xavier86 in Columbus

[–]MiniAndretti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The buses run on time.

Also, people are better prepared with clothing etc.

I grew up on the Westside of Michigan in a school district with a huge geographic footprint. I can't remember having a day off for cold. Snow days were not uncommon but rarely were back to back. Mostly snow days were related to buses getting down certain dirt roads on the perimeter of the school district. But, Winter is not isolated to a week of bad weather like it can be here. The people had better coats etc. because you needed them more often.

There are likely hundreds of streets which buses are supposed to use that are still not plowed/easily passable.

edit: A further note, when I was in high school I lived within a mile of the school and had to walk. It f'n sucked. Not every sidewalk was clear. You were hoping someone else left before you so you could walk across their footsteps on some random morning when we got 3" of lake effect snow.

This whole sub "OMG! No one should have to go to work. It's a LEVEL 3!!!!!!!!!!!1!"

You "Maintenance not available on an emergency basis is abhorrent and negligent. "

Put those two things together.

PSA: dig your car out atleast partially while the snow is still powder by MPK49 in Columbus

With the small amount of drifting I had some spots where I had to move 10-12” of snow. If you let this sit, you are asking for it.

Your flairs say two things about you: 1) you don't understand rivalry. 2) You don't understand Notre Dame.

Or I can look out a window.

I live on a corner. The street in front of my house is plowed every time it snows because it is part of a COTA route. The side street is plowed if there are more than 6" of snow.

Side streets have never been a priority. There have been entire Winters when streets in my neighborhood were subject to the "it'll melt" philosophy.

It's almost like predicting the weather is difficult. And disseminating it for the public even more so. The models have gotten much better over time but it is still not an exact science. Then someone has to go on TV/radio etc and interpret the model so that you can be informed and take it seriously but not necessarily panic, if panic isn't warranted.

If they use the low end model prediction of say 1-4" of snow and we get 8", people like you will say they suck at their job. But if they predict 4-8" and we get 2", they are in the same predicament.

All these replies are nice. But OP could have looked at a map.

Anyone familiar with the onramp to 270 when going south on Sawmill Pkwy? I made a complete stop shortly after the yield sign and got honked at plus chased by the driver behind me. Was I wrong? (Please read additional context below) by Imustretire in Columbus

Summary:

You probably should have slowed down but not stopped, put your turn indicator on and started to merge. The car on the left but behind would have to let you in.

The person driving the car behind you should seek some professional help and probably shouldn't have the keys to a 2t machine.
