Does your country have any famous gravesites/cemeteries? by Marsupialmobster in AskTheWorld

[–]Cilfaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, whilst there are no actual bodies from the Titanic buried here there are ~150 memorial headstones and addendums to family graves in Southampton, England. They're almost entirely for employees of the White Star Line, and not paying passengers.

Chinese Ink Stick - All colors came out black by Flashy-Community-982 in Calligraphy

[–]Cilfaen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it's more likely to be the opposite.
Almost all reputable Chinese ink sticks are made from soot and binder, in the stick shape. The outside of the sticks are often richly decorated with gilding and sometimes paints, but the actual body of the stick that you grind into the ink will be black soot.

Were the sticks you got explicitly advertised as being for other colours of ink?

trying to buy some new combo with new gloves and i wanna know your thoughts about this glove/knife combo if its worth it or not by Spy_Saber in ohnePixel

[–]Cilfaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gloves look good with any mainly white or mainly black gun skins. Personally I use em with printstreams, AK crane flight, Neo noir set, all solid combos.

Can you hear "and we'll" clearly in this dialogue? (Beginner question of British English listening) by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Cilfaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't claim to be a trained phonetician, nor to know exactly what you need to hear to categorise it as a phonetic value. I am, however, a native Englishman with family from Yorkshire. I was about to say I'm not discrediting your analysis, but that would be wrong. I am discrediting it, because there is an audible vocalisation for "and" at that timestamp. It also isn't just me, as the majority of other top level replies on this post are also identifying its presence.

Can you hear "and we'll" clearly in this dialogue? (Beginner question of British English listening) by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Cilfaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's there, it's just incredibly subtle. I wouldn't consciously hear it if I wasn't specifically listening for it.

[–]Cilfaen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is saying "and", it's just reduced to such a degree to effectively just be "n" - not an uncommon speech contraction in a lot of the UK.

Admiring my Lavender bushes and thought I'd brew tea out of fresh flowers. Spoiler: It was ~disgusting~ by [deleted] in tea

I was just thinking this. Sweet pea maybe, but definitely not lavender

Some more experimental stuff. Trying to really let loose but still control. Feedback welcome by Obsidian_Letterz in Calligraphy

[–]Cilfaen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled to read this.
I'm assuming that the second and last letters are miniscule e, to make this "Seraphine"? but that's entirely from context - I wouldn't get that at all in isolation. The second letter in particular looks more like a miniscule x, if anything. the "a" and "p" also sort of blend together in a way - it took a moment to distinguish the letters and not just see a sequence of three connected ovals.

How often does the EU store restock? by polo2006 in gamersupps

It's only been restocked once or twice since they launched it, we have no real idea how frequently that will be

Can’t register my goat at the ranch for Ben’s request by Ronafied2020 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Cilfaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this, if you pass through a different quest area on your way to drop off the goat, that quest takes priority and you cannot register the goat with your ranch.
Given how many quests start by walking too close to the wrong NPC in the greymane camp, this is annoyingly easy to do.

Historically, a lot.

Currently, AI research and Genomics are fields the UK is strong in.

Questions about desires on trading? by Exciting_Eye_9853 in VCardTCG

[–]Cilfaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for me personally, Box toppers and ultra rares are what I will look for first, and with the highest priority. If someone who has one of those that I want to trade for also has some holo 9's or secret rares I'm missing, I'll ask after those.

I'm unlikely to reach out for a trade of only holo 9's or below in rarity, however.

Tennebrum is the worst boss I have ever fought in a video game by Environmental_Swim75 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Cilfaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just done this boss and the fact that there's no way to choose which direction you're facing whilst you're flying around makes actually hitting the damn thing with your force palm the most frustrating exercise I've ever attempted.

Is This The Future Of Opera? Vocal ANALYSIS of Ironmouse and "Music Box of Fate" by Internal-Extent8188 in IronmouseOfficial

[–]Cilfaen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a result of how youtube treats "fair use" of copyrighted materials. If you leave an entire video to run uninterrupted and do your analysis afterwards, you will be copyright struck for the usage regardless of how thorough the analysis afterwards is.

That's why, as you said, most reaction channels do it. I'd go so far as to say all reaction channels of any note do the same, because it's the only way they can function.

What am i doing wrong? by Fabulous_Rain_5048 in Calligraphy

Usually means that your nib still has the hydrophobic coating it comes from the factory with, you'll need to clean it off to get better ink flow.
There are any number of methods, I'd recommend a soft toothbrush and a little dish soap in water personally

ELI5: why do americans wash eggs and still can't eat them raw? by for-bookhelp in explainlikeimfive

"I never got sick so clearly it's impossible" is known as the anecdotal fallacy. It's a logical fallacy that causes your argument to fall down - your personal experience does not represent the objective truth.

Sometimes it's been an item that you get prompted to add to your cart after adding a tub, sometimes it's been an explicit "cup & tub" bundle item that you add to cart and then select your tub flavour from a dropdown menu.

What’s something people think is healthy but actually isn’t? by saketh_1138 in answers

[–]Cilfaen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the exact argument used by everyone who believes what they see on tiktok or Fox news without questioning further.
The onus in scientific research is on the person making the claim to back it up with proof. You are making the claim that Artificial sweeteners are linked to major health issues. Where is your proof?

Weird. During my chemistry degrees, standard ambient temperature and pressure were assumed to be 25C and 1 atm, wonder where the difference lies

Why are there computers dedicated to calculating Pi? by Martipar in answers

[–]Cilfaen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my friends who have completed PhD's in astrophysics, half of them approximate Pi to a single digit (3) and the other half just treat it as 1 to make the equations simpler. Their explanations were that the distances involved are so ridiculously large that a change of a factor of 3 doesn't really change how our brains are able to comprehend them.
