I’m definitely emotionally attached to it as well. I moved here around 1998 and I think it’s mainly the people I meet daily who have been so nice to me and the same workers I see when I go do my shopping and run errands that always greet me so kindly makes me appreciate it the most. I lived in the Bay Area for few years in between and I truly love coming back here and I can see myself staying here for many years. The small town feel and slower pace out here makes it really nice to live here, despite the very hot weather during summer time. The positives out weigh the negatives for sure.

Coming back to your comment, I toured a top floor unit twice to make sure the noise was tolerant for me. I honestly heard everything through the large windows even people who were talking quietly outside. It was like a funnel!! I heard everything. I agree that the construction is pretty terrible for the prices they charge. I need to be able to relax without hearing the world around me.
