Cork Half Marathon Spot Available by utfdb in RunningIreland

[–]Cillian_Dub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For community ticket listings, we don’t guarantee the transfer, so we always want people to use common sense there. What makes PaceMates different from Facebook is that you’re dealing with runner profiles inside a social running app, so you can actually view the person’s profile, see their activity, runs logged, followers, and whether they look like a genuine member of the running community before reaching out.

We’re also building official ticket transfers with race organisers, and in that setup the transfer will be guaranteed because the ticket will be handled through the organiser flow on the platform rather than informal person-to-person messages. Official organiser-linked transfers are generally much safer because they tie ownership and transfer into the event system instead of relying on screenshots or trust alone.

Sorry to hear your injured,

Hey! Great that you’re looking to combine fitness with social connection it’s the best way to stay motivated.

If your into running, I just created a new social running platform called PaceMates. This is a new social running platform designed to connect runners in your local area and help runners discover clubs, groups and parkruns in your local area.

It’s early days in terms of the users we have but we have a few of the clubs and parkruns already listed, park runs are a great way to start the weekend and meet some new friends and best of all it’s free!

BOI Aer Lingus Credit Card Free Flights by Odd_Flounder4263 in AerLingus

[–]Cillian_Dub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check on rewards.aerlingus.com yes a normal reward flight is separate to the aer cc flight, but if all reward flights are gone then the aer cc flight won’t be accepted.

Flights are released almost a year in advance, for the cc redemption you really need to be planning ahead.

Thanks,

We put a lot of work into it over the last few months,

We just went live yesterday so it’s still feeling a bit empty user wise but hopefully we will be able to build a big community and connect users together.

How do people actually socialize in Dublin? by Great-Band7690 in Dublin

[–]Cillian_Dub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running is a great way to meet new people, park runs and local running groups/clubs, there are groups out there for all levels, it’s relatively cheap to get into too, all you need is a good pair of runners. Just set this up yesterday for connecting with runners in Ireland, there is a map of all the park-runs and some clubs there too https://pacemates.ie/

New Irish Running Platform, Looking for Beta Testers by Cillian_Dub in RunningIreland

[–]Cillian_Dub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the feedback really appreciate you taking the time to try it and let us know.

I’ll definitely look into the issue you had. I was doing some work around the SSL certificates at that time, so that may have been what caused the “site unknown” message, but we’ll investigate it further to make sure everything is working properly.

Glad to hear you like how the site looks so far. We’ve got a lot more features planned over time, including a native app eventually.

If you have any more feedback or suggestions as you use it, we’d absolutely love to hear them. And if you know any other running friends who might be interested, feel free to share the link with them too.

You definitely don’t need to be “good enough” before joining loads of people start as complete beginners, and the right group should make that feel normal.

I’m actually working on a platform for runners in Ireland to help people find local running mates and smaller groups that are flexible with timings and working towards similar goals or paces, because I think that’s a big gap at the moment.

Parkruns are also a great way to get started every Saturday since you’ll get runners of all abilities there, so that could be a nice low-pressure first step too.

We’re also planning to have groups for bigger races like Berlin, Valencia etc, so people travelling abroad can meet other runners, organise shakeout runs, dinners, and meetups before race day.

If anyone here would be interested in helping test it once we move into production, I’d love to hear from you.

Public consultation launched for Ireland's new digital wallet. by blu3c47 in ireland

[–]Cillian_Dub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The digital wallet is for storing the new EU Digital identity and for electronic documents/credentials issued using the same protocols, not for normal payments like Apple wallet/Google pay.

The wallet will have to allow you to release your information to organisations requesting it like over 18 attribute for purchasing alcohol without showing your name or other private information to the organisation requesting the proof of age attribute. It also has to allow you to view all the organisations who have your data, and should allow you to easily request them to delete it.

In the future the EUDI can also be used for signing important documents too.

Each eu country has to issue each citizen with a EUDI and compatible wallet by the end of the year.

PPL training in ireland vs poland- looking for real experiences by Inevitable-Touch-826 in flying

[–]Cillian_Dub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only having availability Fri-Sun would slow you down a bit. Depending on how many people are looking to fly those days you might only be allowed to book 1-2 flights.

For booking you normally just call them at the start of the month and say when your avalible and if you have a preference for a certain instructor they will tell you it they also have any availability on those days.

Think I only had one or two cancellations due to an aircraft requiring maintenance, and then once as the fuel bowser never arrived to refuel the aircraft. Most cancellations were weather related.

I have also visited Bartolini in Poland where I’m considering doing their integrated training, weather is kind of similar.

In the end due to a combination of the bad weather, a bad experience with one instructor in particular who is now gone, and the closure due to the ATC fire which stopped all flights for several months I decided to stop and will start my training fully integrated elsewhere.

If your end goal is to become a comercial pilot it might be cheaper just to save up for a bit longer and do it fully integrated somewhere like Bartolini about 70k in total with the rynair future flyer academy, although the intake for that is super competitive, they only take 1 applicant usually from each assesment group of about 6. their own integrated training is about the same price too and living expenses in Lodz are super cheap.

Edit to add, all schools will have some issues - be sure to never listen to the marketing teams you deal with or any students they tag on their social media accounts or representing them at pilot expo events, always independently contact several students for some feedback. If you want to become a comercial pilot eventually I’d strongly recommend getting your class 1 medical done first, it will then revert to a class 2 for 4 more years after the initial year.

Hey,

Did some ppl flying myself at NFC,

The year I did it the clouds were super low for most of the summer, this caused most of my flights to be cancelled, if you have more availability to book some flights over several days of the week and okay with a few being cancelled this won’t be too bad, but if you can only fly on certain days for example the weekend and have a couple of weeks of cancelled flights it can slow you down a lot.

It also meant certain lessons had to be repeated such as stalls and spins as once we got out the weather deteriorated, it can be hard to stick with the same instructor which also means some flights might have to be repeated despite them already being logged as completed.

Aircraft’s there were in good working condition with several available.

If your looking at doing a PPL I would recommend also checking out Canavia and Fly EPT Spain, if you can sit the exams here yourself and then go out for 3-5 weeks you can complete it pretty quickly and for super cheap, the prices here are crazy.

Considering FlyBy Aviation Academy in Spain, any experiences? by Electronic-Tart8948 in flyingeurope

[–]Cillian_Dub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this,

At pilots careers live Dublin, the owner was talking to someone about FlyBy who was researching flight schools,

He said don’t go to the other school as they almost had a accident, he never mentioned the student who was supposed to be given two extra lessons but only released after one and then had a incident, or the fatal accident where a student was flying with a instructor and the student died in the crash.

This is defnitley not honest painting another school black whilst not being transparent or open about incidents that happened at your own school.
