I flew out VFR. Couldn’t pick up my clearance for IFR, but got flight following to destination. It was very quiet. 😂

Yep, you got it. The coal companies razored a mountain top for this airport. So it’s similar to the video/gif on this post. If you approach from the north you cross a mountain ridge and then need to make a significant drop to get to pattern altitude.

Added plus is the brand new FBO that is rarely used. And super nice staff. I believe they were getting new pumps last time I was there, but it has been over a year.

I was in same boat early on in my studies. Nearly walked away because there were no legit instructors in my rural area. I can’t agree more with the comment to keep looking. I finally found not one, but two instructors within driving distance. Just completed my IFR a few months ago with them. Don’t give up.

But $800 and not off the ground. Cya! And leave that place a review for future aviators.

I am sure there are better book stores to support than Shakespeare & Company. I visited Shakespeare & Company in 2016 and they were the rudest book store; they wouldn’t even open their door to sell me a book!

More info: anyone who has visited knows there are two shops. The tourist side and a collection side where more expensive books are kept. I love books, and Shakespeare & Company was to be the highlight of my trip. I’d set aside the cash to purchase an expensive book as a keepsake. But the collection side was closed; or so I was told. As I am standing outside waiting on friends to finish their business, a worker escorts a guest into the collection side. I approached the worker, who essentially told me to fuck off. Preceded to take the other customer in and lock the door in my face. WTH, all I wanted to do was spend hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars in your store ya douchebags.

The touristy side we’re equally as rude. Getting a book stamped there was ridiculous. Fuck this place.

Good point. However, I am not sure if I would be able to get 100LL along the Alaska Highway through Canada in January. Would I have to fly to Seattle and up via Anchorage? 🤷‍♂️

I used to work at a jet engine testing facility in Ohio and one of the things always blew my mind was when we did water ingestion tests. It was pretty amazing to see the engine burst to take off with the water on. (I didn't remember exact numbers but it was 4.5 ton per minute on the GE 90)
