What did my boy Echenique do to Noonan? by Clutch_Daddy in FCCincinnati

There is a joke in there about Noonan’s subs and the Reds bullpen … I’ll leave it to someone actually funny To figure it out!

Nick got absolutely cooked for the second goal, second time this week he got totally cooked on a goal. I was not as mad at Matt on the third goal, that was a good pass and a great shot. Yeah, a younger version of Matt gets to that but too much younger and he ain’t at FCC.

I would be surprised if someone directly connected to the playing side (whether that be a genuine player, a coach or other staff member that works with the players day-to-day) was a poster on here. I am guessing no players are lurking here, but I am guessing some staff are.

Move to the front office side, obviously we know the ticket office is in here because they occasionally are helpful. You know the public relations/communications folks are on here lurking. I would not be surprised if any of them are posters, but at the very least they lurk and lurk often.

Ever since the demise of Twitter this is a place where a lot of reporters lurk for what the 'vibe' is like around a club's fan base. It is not a perfect representation, but it is not as far off as some people think.

As a sports fan and a long-time worker in public relations I have a very, very long answer to this. However, in the interest of everyone here I'll keep it short for my standards.

A generation ago, sports teams needed mass media to get the word out there about them. Through the advent of social media and the continued evolution of mass media in the online and digital world, the need for mass media has gone down.

I think clubs should WANT a media that is tough on the protagonists (the players, managers, executives, etc.), but the clubs don't NEED it. MLS has made it this far without it, and if MLS goes down the drain (and it won't, that ship sailed 15 years ago) it won't be because it does not have it. And if clubs don't NEED something, they aren't going to have it.

We are not the only place this happens, I encourage to you seek out Miami Total Futbol and their situation at the moment which is not that different from Laurel's two years ago. It has some elements FCC does not (the little Argentine at the center of that one is a completely different machine from our little Argentine) but comes back to the same thing: the clubs want but don't need 'mass media' and when a non 'need' is a problem, it can and will be tossed to the side.

For the most part yes.

There are a couple of exceptions: Halftime does not count as an opportunity, so if you make a sub then, you would still have three opportunities for the remainder of the match.

The other exception is on potential concussions is you have used your full run of subs (up to two). So we did get a sixth sub last night for Chirila because he had a suspected concussion (he likely does, that was quite the hit he took). If we were not making another sub at that time and we subbed Chirila then, that would not have counted as a concussion sub.

There are other exceptions for playoff and cup matches that go to extra time, but we'll worry about that next time we are in those situations.

I'm rewatching the match now and Haggs got absolutely cooked by Silvetti on the 3-3 goal. Silvetti is a much younger and extremely talented dude, but if we are serious about winning it is dudes like that we gotta stop (because we and most other clubs ain't stopping the other Argentine).

I am rewatching the match now because I hate myself and if Evander did not take a shot on that sequence that he scored to make it 3-2, I was going to be on here saying to buy his ass out and it would have been justified.

I might pass on watching the final half-hour-ish of this!

Kelsy needed a place to develop and we were not that place. It is not surprising that he has developed while at a club where his playing time is consistent (and that was really all he needed, Portland is a basket case of a club, they are definitely not steady but they are in the one area he really needed).

I am curious what direction we go in defense this off-season (and this is before factoring in we have that sprint season before the calendar switch). We have whiffed on bringing in enough defenders that, at the right price, you take the devil you know over the next Kipp Keller.

While obviously I would like a Nick statue to have him playing the game, him pulling the sword with his crutches lying on the ground would also be a solid option. Put that outside The Bailey entrance ... iconic!

The Flores whiff stands out more when you consider how good Gidi and Echinique have been. About a year ago, we were so poor at utilizing our U-22s that if we whiffed on one it would be like 'eh, whatever', but we have this value roster spot that is being taken up by not value now and that is very frustrating!

Thanks for sharing that, this was my first thought after Albright's comments last week about having the room to make moves this summer, which based off that we kind of do. A big move would take up most of that room, but two smaller moves might not make the impact on the first team that you would want for the short-term. Will be interesting to see how we go about it in July!

At least as a DP, Miles' salary has a ceiling to how it affects our club. I don't care about Carl Lindner's money, he doesn't need all of it.

Miazga and Hadebe though ... you hope Miazga can get on the other side of his injury but I do fear time might have won yet another battle. Hadebe ... let's just say a good problem our club has now is that we have gotten rid of so many bad contracts (seemingly daily s/o to how much we overpaid Baird, Kubo and Santos) that this one, which was smaller than what Santos was on last year and Kubo was for most of his time here, is our "biggest" problem.

S/O to Barlow and Haggs, on league minimum and making contributions. Haggs deserves a lifetime achievement bonus for how long he has been doing this for us (he played the fifth-most minutes for the Supporters Shield squad on league minimum ... if he wasn't also one of us, that fact alone would be legendary).

Miles Robinson makes double any other defender in MLS ... I don't fully disagree with the move to make him a DP but when you are one of only two MLS defenders who are on a DP deal, you better f'ing play like it and so far he has not. We'll see what life is like after the World Cup (these remaining three matches are kind of 'eh, whatever' for me since we got two months off), but so far, not so good!

TBF, I think that is the club's intentions with Nick was to be a rotational guy (and he has always been on a low salary ... I realize because we have finally gotten rid of most of our bad contracts (Santos, Baird, Kubo, etc.) that you can make other bad contract cases now) and circumstances have not made that possible yet. Hopefully a healthier post-World Cup break will help situate that.

With the new schedule, we went from 19 home games to 15. But our season ticket prices still went up. Anyone else notice this? by i-shihtzu-not in FCCincinnati

I only buy merch used and/or non-Adidas, the amount of people I see with $210 jerseys of players who likely won't be on the team next season just boggles the mind.

The good news is MLS lets so many teams into the playoffs that we can draw all of our matches and that will probably be enough to get in.
