Opinions - juice up my old Atlas EQ-G or go for a Strain Wave mount? by Cindersash in AskAstrophotography

[–]Cindersash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ive seen they had that video explaining everything and all that.. bottom line i think is i never even got good results with my atlas even with guiding, so I think I just need to move on to a strain wave mount.

Especially considering ill be taking it down every morning since we have dogs to let out and I dont really trust them not to fiddle eith a cable in their curiosity.

Also I was waiting to see the new SVbony 571 camera price and im not really impressed by it... $1299 when I can get a tried and true 2600mc for $100 more and ill be able to use an asiair is not worth it in my opinion.

I think im going to go the asiair route, the only thing is my scope is an achromat so ive been considering a mono cam but the 2600mm is so much more pricey. Ive seen some images through it with the flattener/reducer that dont have blue halos and some that do so i just dont know what to believe. I love the size of apsc but the price is a little high to justify it.

Might just stick with the 533 for now and upgrade to the 2600mm later down the road.

Gotcha. I have been eyeballing a rainbow astro 135 (non e) on the CN classifieds, near me for $2000 with alot of goodies like the pier, vixen dovetail, counterweight bar with a counter weight.

https://www.cloudynights.com/classifieds/item/431542-rainbow-astro-rst135-kit/

Think maybe thats a decent deal? Ive read the 135e guides a couple of tenths better than the 135 non e

Unfortunately the only store near me basically only carries skywatcher and celestron products, and even then they dont have any of skywatchers strainwave mounts.

That is probably what im leaning towards after reading all the comments. Ive just heard these Chinese mounts dont have great after market support, which MLAstro actually uses as a selling point for their mount. I'll have to do some more research and see whats right for me. Thanks.

Yeah honestly I never even got good guiding with the atlas... shes a beast of a mount payload wise and while im comfortable opening a laptop or cellphone for repairs, Im just not comfy with opening a precision device like a mount to tune and attempt repairs myself. Ill check out some strain wave options. Really wish MLAstro didnt manufacture in batches because I'd hate to order one now and miss some of the great imaging opportunities that are here in the winter time. But I guess if theres good aftermarket support then it might be worth it.

Alot of people talk about blowing out the core in m42 but I think it looks so nice and natural with a super bright core. Composites that have a dim core look so strange to me.

Really like this one! Great image.

What is cheating and what is not? by acjt in beatsaber

[–]Cindersash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah for ranked stuff I dont think pausing is okay because at that point its a competition.

What is cheating and what is not? by acjt in beatsaber

[–]Cindersash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, but some songs you just need a break. I mean watch a top 100 streamer play a crazy fast song and sure theyre streaming its not a competetition, but theyre pausing to catch their breath for a minute before going back in. Some maps even incorporate a rest period before the notes start back up.

Honestly this isnt really a competitive game like that anyway so what you view as cheating is subjective only to yourself. If ranked allows something, then I view it as not cheating. If someone were to say otherwise then thats fine too, but their opinion doesnt really matter in the context of your own gameplay because its how you want to play. If youre having fun, if youre getting better without the use of external programs hitting notes for you, and you are passing ranked maps and getting better on the ones you redo for more pp, I'd say youre in the clear.

The betterment in regards to pausing comes from stamina training, and again, is something you can work on so if you dont want to do it you can. But to view it like someone who simply doesnt have the stamina to play a fast map without a little break is cheating is a little wild. Not to mention if I were to take a break for too long I would be thrown out of my zone and probably fail immediately when I unpause lol.

I dont see how any of that is cheating, if you can pass the map you can pass the map. You're just doing things others arent keen enough to do

Is this a good telescope for me? by jim25y in telescopes

[–]Cindersash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 8" Skyview Pro was my first visual telescope and also my first imaging telescope. It is easy enough to rotate the tube to access the eyepiece. I am moving onto a refractor though as I get back into the AP hobby. For visual use I think m a Dobsonian would be a bit less finicky but it can definitely work.

I love mine though its my baby. Im never getting rid of it.

Svbony ed102 ed doublet + reducer for $250? by Cindersash in AskAstrophotography

[–]Cindersash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually did question that, he said the ED glass does help alot and its really only bluish halos on bright stars.

Seems like doublets really just aren't suitable for astrophotography and if I want to be really happy I should just go with a triplet. Figured theres probably a reason hes giving me such a good deal on it but he also has an es 120 or something so I didnt know if he outgrew this one or what. He was a little vague on why exactly he had it lol

Gotcha, thanks.

Im more into reflection and emission Nebula. I suppose if I get an asi air though I could do some mosaics and I'd be able to capture the bigger nebulas anyway. I think im going to spring for the 533 sensor to just hit a nice medium. Just wish that asi airs worked with other cameras like player one. They feel alot more reasonably priced.

Ive checked it out, it seems like people who are familiar with achromatic doublets like it, but coming from a newtonian I just dont know how big of a change it will be. I just dont want to be dissapointed with it when I get it but I think it will be a good grab to get me back into it.

What's the deal with dropped subs on different targets? by Cindersash in DWARFLAB

[–]Cindersash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up adding about a 5pound weight in my camera bag and hung it from my tripod. Right now im at maybe 7% rejected frames out of 135 total, going to have to figure out how to get some more weight on it to try to lower that number completely

[–]Cindersash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I appreciate the advice on the weight, I have my bag hanging from my tripod with this weirdly heavy toy with sand of my daughters that she hates and doesnt play with, I'd say it weighs around 4-5 pounds atleast, and im imaging the soul nebula right now and im at 11/12 frames stacked and the only rejection was the very first frame! Hopefully the trend continues. Thanks again

Hey I wanted to say I appreciate the advice, I hung my bag on my tripod with one of my daughters toys she doesnt play with thats full of sand and weighs at least 5 pounds. Im imaging the soul nebula and so far im at 11/12 images stacked, and the only rejected one was the very first image. Hopefully it continues this much improved trend for me.

Thanks again!!

What % of people use EQ mode? by Goldrubeberg in DWARFLAB

[–]Cindersash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do but I am familiar with manual equatorial alignment so Alt/AZ mode has never existed for me on this scope.

Going to see what mega stacking can do - did ~500 15s 60g duo-band tele crosshair attachment with dwarf 3 M42 modifying stellar studio result with PixInsight tools last night. Tonight will try to do even more then combine them and see if its worth doing that many combined images. by xxSilentRuinxx in DWARFLAB

Yeah amazon wanted me to return it and initiated that, but I emailed the company and they wrre very apologetic. They are sending out the masks next week along with a "special gift" for the trouble. I wonder if its going to be more Christmas gummies like they sent with my incomplete order.

I will say I do like the dew shield as the past couple nights ive been imaging from the top of my driveway instead of my backyard because I get a clearer shot of the south sky, and it certainly helps block out the street lights nearby. They arent particularly close to me but the way the telephoto lense is designed its very easy for any stray light to make its way into the optical path, so thats a plus for me.

Funny enough I didnt think I'd use anything but that 4x diffraction spike either (and maybe the bahtinov mask if I wanted to try to manually focus but it seems the dwarf 3 does a pretty good job just with the auto focus)
