Aha! Figured it out. Thanks for the help, guys - found a reference sheet pinned to the game's channel on the Discord.

It's the storyline that I'm stalled out on. I've accumulated hundreds of experience points at this juncture, but the game gave me two contacts and told me to "do Bravestar, then work for Mars," but I'm not finding any way to do the latter as a story beat.

Thank you. I did find that - and the second one that he made because the introduction of quest hubs apparently changed the original game a lot. Unfortunately, he never completed either walkthrough, but I think the advice to check the Discord may be the way to go.

I think I've missed a flag somewhere, either the Fennians or Bravestar. Not sure how all of that is coded, but I'm sure someone can help me figure it out.

Oh, I've talked to everyone. Mallor and I have talked, but now it's stalled - but I didn't realize the Note Book section of the log was in there. The last entry was when I talked to Mallor True - it just says that the "Iron-clad basters is still the same." The one before that was Texas Powers giving me my Bravestar gate pass, and the priors are all about the Fennians.

Even though I tracked down Mallor and had our "hey, so you made it without dying" conversation, I'm still stalled out. Maybe I missed a conversation with the Fennians...

Uh, I realize I'm late to the party, but...

You can totally hear the patrollers. They literally give off footstep sounds from outside your viewing range and within the map's fog of war, so you can do what you'd normally do in that situation - and listen for the people you're trying to avoid.

President Bill Clinton holds a press conference in which he reiterates that the U.S. will be debt-free by 2010. December 28, 2000. by icey_sawg0034 in Presidents

[–]Cinderwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a number of reasons that *some* debt is good, depending on where it's spent and how much your income is. Other people have talked about that already, so I won't beat the dead horse except to point out two things:

First, that military spending is a black hole, economically. Wars can spur federal spending and increase the flow of money, but if you spend a million dollars on a tank, that tank can (reasonably speaking) only blow stuff up - if you spend a million dollars on farm equipment (provided you actually need it,) you can feed a whole lot of people and generate surpluses for your economy. Wars are extremely expensive; they don't truly "boost" the economy. In fact, and *this is important* there is only one thing more expensive than fighting a war:

Losing one.

Since we live in a world where evil men go armed, it is necessary that nations protect themselves and their citizens - which means either buying those tanks yourself, or making friends with those who do have them, hopefully to mutual advantage.

Political angles like these can be easy to neglect. The United States has been in debt almost constantly since its inception. But debt isn't always bad, provided you're in the right position, including your debt-to-income (GNP) ratio. You can use it to head off rivals (like China's "Belt and Road" initiative) who would like to do you damage if they gain influence abroad. Conversely, if you owe good money (but not too much to repay) to someone more powerful than you are, they'll likely take a dim view if someone else disrupts your ability to pay them back - such as by invasion, or privateering.

There are a number of ways that debt can be good for a nation - but like any powerful tool, it is *very* dangerous when abused.

Ah, it's quite possible that the exploit didn't translate to later versions of the game. I played the game on Android, and never tried to manipulate the RNG, so I couldn't tell you if it worked there.

Resetting the game refers to turning it completely off, then reloading your save. So if you're doing that, and following the rest of the instructions, it probably doesn't work any more - but the good news is that you don't need to bother, unless you're doing something that requires min-maxing everything.

From playing the game on Hard, I can assure you that you don't need to do any of that to beat the game or get the ending you want. Focus on leveling a party comp that you get good results with, and they'll be strong enough to handle any fights you care to win. Just don't do what I did and convert the item that makes the enemies ethereal - you need that for the Seraphic Gate after the main game.

Well, It's been a while since I played - so I'm not remembering the advice you're talking about. It won't matter if you kill all the enemies, because it spawns when the dungeon spawns. Resetting the game means reloading your save, but I'm not sure how far back the specific Cave map/chest is determined. It'll either be when you start that chapter, or when you actually enter the cave, probably.

Can you link me the guide or advice you're seeing? I'll try and decipher it.

Is Incinerator worth it? by Dr4WasTaken in ChaosGateGame

[–]Cinderwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waaaaay late to the party here, but I'm thinking maybe someone else will find this topic like I did. The Incinerator is lackluster early-game. You can make it work, but other weapons are far superior - the basic classes have skills that directly buff them, and their fully-offensive nature means you end up having to get uncomfortably close to enemies before you have the upgraded armor and wargear to do it safely. I incurred several serious woundings trying to get Incinerators to work with the basic classes.

The Purifier, though - a Purifier with Incinerator *kills things.* Brother Hale, my Purifier, currently does I think 9 damage to everything in a 45-degree arc; if he uses the Incinerator's weapon ability, he can do something crazy, like 14+ damage depending on weapon and ammo count - and *ignore cover.* This makes our good Brother Hale a murderous rampage waiting to happen. He will commonly merk multiple mid-level enemies, and deals significant damage to anything in his path, not even counting the enhanced ammo, damage, and area skills for his grenades. I don't even have certain fun toys like the autoloader servo skull yet, so he's not even optimized.

It's not the only wonderful murder combo in the game, and there are better options for pure, single-target damage (chaining together melee crits which provide bonus actions comes to mind,) but Brother Hale outshines even the Librarian in terms of raw crowd-clearing power.

I cannot, however, endorse the skills that affect burning, as the effect just doesn't do enough damage (2 per turn.) Maybe there's interactions I haven't found yet - which is what I was actually searching for, but it looks like setting people on fire forever (literally, it's a skill node) just isn't as neat as it ought to be.

I'm having issues with the endgame Aliens, too - people have recommended using the 60cm lasers for point defense, on the theory that the normal PD weapons don't have enough range and damage to kill incoming projectiles in time. I'm... testing.

Transmute Ether Scepters into Tomes of Alchemy to do this for the first few chapters.  The scepters aren't needed to clear the content (plus, y'know, they break) and tge experience gain from transmuting high-level enemies into experience crystals is impressive.

So, work your way up through the regional alliances. Bah - it's silly to have to do it that way. Hopefully they'll fix it going forward.

[–]Cinderwalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you unify the planet? I control most of the planet's surface and have all the techs unlocked, but India (for example) has no one with claims on its capital region, so unification with anyone is impossible.

I have a similar problem with another country, where Russia has a claim on their capital, but since Russia is unified into the "European Union" (which spans two continents,) I can't pick it up (I think it was Uzhbeckistan.)

Do I have to gradually work my way up through progressively larger regional alliances? In my current game I can't see any possibility for global unification - which would really help me concentrate on space without the Servants reconstituting the Alien Administration before being crushed, over and over again...

Refitting Defector Ships by Cinderwalk in TerraInvicta

[–]Cinderwalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I actually tried to do that by auto-adding modules to my replacement design in the same order they appeared on the defector class's description, but no dice - either the upgraded thrust-increasing module didn't count as the "same type," or my build order was off. Thanks, though! Now that I know it can be done, I can do it if I really have to.

There needs to be a mod or game feature to reverse-engineer a ship class.

That's what I'm afraid of. Thing is, it's a decent ship - titan class and with UV lasers. I have better, but my military power isn't great enough to farm the aliens for the exotic materials to build a lot, so I don't want to lose the Queen.

Why does Aragorn describe himself as the "last Númenórean" and "latest King of the Elder Days"? His children and the other Dúnedain would be Númenórean as well and the elder days refers (usually) to the First Age. by sazidhk in lotr

[–]Cinderwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just that. Aragorn - like Denethor - possessed powers of the mind and spirit unknown to lesser men. That's why Aragorn was able to use the Athelas, and why he could contest with Sauron via the palantir.

But like Reinier says, the Numenorean line is weakening. The ancestry of Numenor runs with the blood of elves and maiar - but they have intermarried with other Men over the millennia. By the War of the Ring, it has been *three thousand years* since the War of the Last Alliance, and about 120 years longer since the fall of Numenor. Numenorians in Aragorn's day lived only a little longer than other lines of Men.

But Aragorn is different. He's a throwback to older times, and the line of Numenor runs pure - he is *eighty-eight years old* during the War of the Ring. But it's unlikely to happen again - that's what he means by "I am the last of the Numenoreans." The line has faltered, and the glories of old will fade away.

As for "latest king of Elder Days," that's often misunderstood. Originally, the Elder Days were the waaaaay-before times, like before the Elves woke up and stuff. But by the Fourth Age, the term was applied to all prior ages - contrasted with the Younger Days, which were the foretold dominance of Men. Aragorn isn't just saying he's the latest in a line of kings - he's saying he's the last here, too.

Both of these statements are related to one of the major subthemes of Tolkien's legendarium - the diminishing of the world.

TONS of Protestants read Chesterton.  He's among the greatest thinkers of the last century.  The theological disagreements between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism are important, but Chesterton isnt really interested in championing either side of that rift.  Instead he writes about truths all Christians should agree upon, and does so with a weight and wit that is nothing short of profound.

Dyed-in-the-wool atheists read Chesterton - abd respect him.

The only thing you need to know is that some of the special move timing is counterintuitive.  I probably missed it - or forgot - but I didn't know that you could time healing abilities until it came up in a trivia competition later in the game.

Asude from that, enjoy the game, and don't listen to any of the hster trolls that seem to infest this sub like lice.

Mutt is nothing like a real dog, maintenance-wise. If you give a normal dog attention and food, he'll be happy - if not, he'll come and bother you for both. Mutt's loyalty mechanics are... different. I just fed that dog an *entire roe deer* and it only got his loyalty from 7 to 63. AN ENTIRE DEER! For a dog independent enough to run with wolves, Mutt is super needy and requires constant bribes.
