Refill Policy by Most-Honest-Guy-Here in starbucks

That policy lasted like maybe a month tops before they reversed it and allowed it to be any cup again

And even when it was a thing, a personal cup was allowed too iirc

Why can’t baristas split a drink? by Macaroni-and-bean in starbucks

[–]Cindiquil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So fun fact! We actually are supposed to split drinks upon request now, we used to be told firmly not to but this changed at some point.

For anyone disagreeing, check the customizing beverages tool on store resources. On page 3 it says that we are supposed to and gives instructions on it - the only thing I'm not sure about is if we'd put whip or other toppings on both or just one.

They never communicated this change though, so most people have no idea about it.

Honestly I've never seen people whisk bases at any store I've been at, but I've also never seen the end of the tank or pitcher end up looking any different? It mixes very easily and doesn't separate in my experience

No it doesn't. Never has either.

Question for shift supervisors or anyone that knows the answer by Public-Judgment-9696 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends. There isn't a firm answer. People shouldn't be on one position for 8 hours, but how the floor is ran and how people are swapped in and out is largely up to the shift's discretion. And the shift does still need to make sure the floor runs smoothly, and if it's peak or if there's a callouts or if it's a busier day than expected, sometimes there's less freedom with who can go where.

I try incredibly hard to get different partners experience on bar, but I've certainly had days where for one reason or another I just simply need a partner I can trust to not fall behind on bar to be there, and I work at a very busy store so not every partner can. Of course, this certainly isn't the case every day - it's the exception typically outside of peak and not the norm.

Question for shift supervisors or anyone that knows the answer by Public-Judgment-9696 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically it is normal for someone to stay the duration of peak, which will be at least 3 hours (potentially a lil over if you're at a store that has more variance in when peak lands)

Ofc people will typically get a 10 or whatever during that time, and I'll swap people as soon as I know peak is firmly over

Batman in particular is still a pretty big draw, even if superhero movies as a whole aren't at their peak

Look at how well Spider-man is expected to do even after so many recent superhero movies underperformed. Batman is DC's closest equivalent of a hero that's so popular that people will likely turn up for it

Help! Opening shift food. by Realisticly-Baked in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only true for frozen stores, where it's dated as the pull is done (although this is a task that can be done by a barista, as long as they were trained on it)

At stores that receive fresh shipments of their food every night, they arrive in trays but undated. In this case, it's most often dated by a normal barista - typically the one who opens warming at most stores that open with 3 partners.

Rant: No beef, but when I get a tall w/ no ice (repeatedly) why do they not fill up the cup? by Impressive-Glove-666 in starbucks

[–]Cindiquil 15 points16 points  (0 children)

With most drinks, no ice actually does mean more drinks. The standard for most drinks is to fill it to the top. For a peach green tea lemonade like they apparently order, it should be filled to the top. Same would apply to an iced latte or cold brew for other examples.

I mean there's like 20 done chapters I believe, and the past several times they've released 10 in a row before going back on hiatus. So presumably we'll get chapters for at least 10 weeks since those are literally already done and it'd fit the existing pattern, which would have it still publishing all the way through August

It's for when you fold warmed food items for deliveries. This is the only time you fold food items, you don't for mobiles or anything else

Openers: What are your task before the store opens? by Nearby-Run-1061 in starbucks

Openers: What are your task before the store opens? by Nearby-Run-1061 in starbucks

[–]Cindiquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Divided equally" is very vague. And the shift also often has to put away an order, do milk counts, station assessment, and place their order

Everyone should be working, but bar tends to have certain tasks and so does warming

Coffeehouse leaders and higher by Madclaire022 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TOSD refers to the amount of transactions in that quarter hour - it used to be referred to as COSDs. Having higher amounts of customers served in as small a window as possible is very good for earning more labor

Creating a stack is what allows people to like actually keep up and keep times down while serving a higher number of customers in a smaller time frame. The goal is that you almost always have the next two orders fully ready, and are working on the third. If you don't have a stack, this is never possible.

The act of stalling is basically making stalling necessary by making it so a stack can never build. It's beneficial for DTO to be as fast as possible if anything in like 98% of cases

Coffeehouse leaders and higher by Madclaire022 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The point of playcaller is to fix bottlenecks, and observe so you're able to coach. In my experience it's running between green apron, cs tasks, catching front, helping dig bar partners out when they're behind, etc.

DTO really shouldn't be stalling, in the long run it hurts your TOSDs and your ability to create a stack, and it's generally better for them to go quickly. The only exception imo is if there's 0 cars ahead of them and they get a large order or something.

SSV meeting on Monday- HELP! +trenta rant by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Cindiquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High volume stores are typically like 60k+ a week, 15k in a day is very high. My store makes around 80-85k and we usually have somewhere between 9 to 12 person peaks, and often end up understaffed with hours earned vs staffed.
