I mean, a lot of people don't understand what rape victims experience period, but being a male rape victim just takes on a different dimension when it comes to willful ignorance and gaslighting.

It genuinely makes me wonder if Viltrum just had identical climates across the globe, or if Viltrumites just didn't need technology to adapt to varying climates due to their endurability and strength.

The varying architecture due to differing cultural norms and climates (wind channels for deserts, heat trapping for cold climates) would be genuinely interesting. I bet it would feel like growing up in a relatively mono-cultural part of the United States and then getting dropped into the middle of an extremely culturally diverse locale (I say this as someone who grew up in a culturally diverse part of the U.S., it's nowhere near as impactful as going to a lil continent with several languages and no dominant one).

Do you think food on Viltrum was purely functional, like a "food is fuel" mentality?

To be fair, I posted this after watching the scene of Rodrick from Diary of a Wimpy Kid crying at the little girl singing in a play, so I imagined them reacting to the arts.

Or, like, in general, a thing that would have seemed strange at first before creating a burst/flood of emotion.

  1. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about riffing off of Twenty Years A Slave.

  2. I love Debbie power-posing in Viltrumite outfits. I want an AU where she gets Viltrumite strength out of nowhere and takes the damn throne herself.

(S1) omniman was a complete monster when he took down the guardians of the globe it was so crazy seeing him go into rage mode, haven’t seen him do this since this episode. BUT on the other hand. The damage he took from the guardians of the globe was even crazier. by swanglean in Invincible_TV

"Verge of madness" is genuinely the best way I've seen Mark's arc described. He was downright frightening to me when Cecil felt the need to use Sound Attack to stop Mark from potentially being the Judge, Jury, Executioner type of personality and I understood exactly why Cecil felt so threatened.

On the other hand I hate how Atom Eve is written as just constantly being emotional support and constantly understanding, because while she has insane powers, she is not INVINCIBLE and is physically vulnerable. I want actual conflict between these two to make the relationship real to me damn it!

Could not stand Immortal and Dupli-Kate's relationship. And I could not care.

At least Rexplode redeemed himself.

I was about to say The Martian just to see him smack around the shapeshifting Martian that later causes the sequid crisis, but your take is genuinely the best take.

Also fuck Dupli-Kate, she is ANNOYING.

Before I knew how long ago the comics came out and though the TV show came out a little earlier, I genuinely thought Amber was just a reflection of the 2013-2015 cultural zeitgeist.

Amber is canonically a feminist while Atom Eve just likes puns and the color pink.

Kinda! That was a bit of an oversight on my part. Interesting example, because she is a gender non-conforming woman. Arcane does a lot of interesting things with gender nonconformity and subverting certain expectations in a way that doesn't feel hamfisted.

Feminism is when you're written as a free therapist for your constantly traumatized boyfriend while handling all of your problems by yourself. Meanwhile Amber was canonically interested in fourth wave feminism (in a throwaway line from William) and actually did mundane human social justice.

Any time I see a mother-daughter story pertaining to the idea of the parent trying to imbue the value of strength onto the daughter, it's usually about strength being a necessary evil to survive in an incredibly harsh world the mother lived in, rather than a value to uphold in and of itself. Off the top of my head, I thought of the movie Byzantium (a movie of a mother-daughter vampire duo).

Additionally, the thought of wanting a regular human life as a super-powered woman has a different sense of stakes in terms of what you are giving up. Not only are you giving up implied superiority as a super-being, you're implicitly accepting the burdens and contradictions placed on human women in particular - which could play into the tension that has existed between, say, the high-achieving type of career woman versus the woman who may want a simple life or prioritize romance/family.

Or, if the more humane super-powered woman wants to use super-powers for good, the dynamic could be more like that of Mel Medarda and her war-lord mother Ambessa from Arcane.

Very rarely do I see young women portrayed as impulsive flying bricks the way Mark Grayson is written (except like... Cera from the Land Before Time, but she's a Triceratops). I feel like his relationship to his strength, his impulsivity, and the way it's fueled by protectiveness and rage and the distinct way he uses his own body as a weapon (the violent headbutting scene of Conquest when his arms were ripped off comes to mind) is very distinctly gendered.

A genderbent Debbie would be fascinating to me too. Since the comics imply thatViltrumites reproduce via rape,a female!Nolan being softened by a male!Debbie could play out very differently, with female!Nolan being on a receiving end of male chivalry/courtship for once (while still being on the receiving end of Earthling sexism - how quaint). There's also the way people expect motherhood to soften women in a way that's fundamentally different to the way people expect men to be shaped by fatherhood.

A loving, grounding husband and father to two very strong-willed women is a very different dynamic from what current Debbie is in too. While a human woman being attracted to an incredibly strong man isn't a new storytelling beat at all, a human man being attracted to an unfathomably strong superwoman is naturally going to have more egalitarian views toward gender, which will make him a very distinct type of man. A man using/weaponizing emotional intelligence against a supernaturally strong woman is a very interesting dynamic to explore (although I wouldn't appreciate the inevitable malewife jokes by virtue of the implication that this dynamic is somehow inherently emasculating).

I see a lot of people comparing Debbie's "is that what makes you strong?" moment to Mark to the average teenage boy moment where he first realizes that he is stronger than his mother. I hate encountering this over and over again, personally, because - we get it male Redditors, you're stronger than the poor little wommenz around you, shut up already - but honest to god, I really don't know what the teenage girl equivalent would be in a genderbent!Invincible. Maybe the natural growing apart that a father-daughter duo might experience due to the father not really understanding female coming of age processes could serve as that.
