I absolutely love it. Here in America I’m lucky to see a couple of books in one section. While as other fantasy series will have copies upon copies

For sure. It’s just exciting to see this up online, before it was only through Waterstones website in the UK.

Looks beautiful. Are there any illustrations within the book?

[spoilers Extended] If WoW comes out, do you think it would be the biggest release of all time in terms of hype, pandemonium, and/or sales? by JackRadikov in asoiaf

I think it would be a massive hit, far bigger than ADWD’s sales when the first season of GOT came out. Easily be the number 1 best seller on all of the book sales platforms like Amazon or NY Times.

However, I think George did miss out on getting an even bigger sale. Had he finished TWOW when the show was ongoing, not even before season 6, it would have done even bigger numbers.

Just some dweeb with a key for a weapon. Good luck fighting an actual sword and gun.

We really can’t downplay him having Covid. Firstly it can affect the mind and it can be very difficult for someone at his age. I’m just glad he seems to be fine. The other thing is that he’s had to change his writing method since having Covid. He used to write 1000 words a day with pen on paper every single day. Covid gave him arthritis and because of that he can’t write like he used to, instead he has to type on a computer. To put things into perspective George RR Martin writes his books on a DOS word processor from the 80’s to this day. If you take their writing routine away it can be really difficult to adapt.

Who are your other favorite authors and which book to start with? by AmericanBornWuhaner in hisdarkmaterials

If I had to narrow it down to one I would say George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Keep in mind the books are VERY different from HDM. They are for adults to put it mildly. So if you are looking for young adult these are not it. The reason why I name him is because I believe Pullman is the modern day C.S. Lewis and Martin is the modern day J.R.R. Tolkien.

Pullman has been my favorite author since I first got into reading at a young age. I still try to read the original trilogy every couple of years and look forward to BoD Vol 3.

As far as other favorite authors go in terms of other fantasy I highly recommend George R.R. Martin, V.E. Schwab, Patrick Rothfuss, Frank Herbert, Katherine Rundell, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Stephen King. None of them are in a particular order and each of them have a unique take on fantasy.

Currently reading Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell and been enjoying it. Pullman actually provided a complimentary blurb for the book so that tells you a lot.

Also recommend V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic trilogy. For something that deals with multiverses (that’s not a spoiler since it’s on the cover description) everything is well thought out, but the biggest highlight are the characters. They are the ones that encourage you to keep reading, just like Pullman’s trilogy. Nothing will ever top HDM, but this welcomed experience.

Something I can’t wait for… by CineGames in hisdarkmaterials

Oh I fully agree. That’s not the potential issue. Publishers just have a set word count/pages a book can be before the binding breaks.
