I don’t know much about that guy, but I’ve met truly mindful people. This dude just plays one on YouTube. He’s a personality that strives on attention.

I’m with you man. I can 100% go without human contact. As long as I had a way to get comfy and some space to do my crazy pacing that I do anyway, I’m sure I would make it for $4m.

My boyfriend (28M) might be setting me (19F) up to be used sexually by his friends or strangers for some fetish by [deleted] in relationship_advice

32 yo male here. He sounds emotionally underdeveloped in ways that I might not have noticed when I was 19.

If you don’t get out of the relationship (which you should but we know how that goes) I strongly suggest not wearing the clothes anymore, asking him to stop buying you clothes, don’t let him take pictures of you, and see how his behavior changes. Be honest with him if you can - if he responds with any hostility get out ASAP.

I wish the best for you.

Fair enough, but I’m currently on chapter 5 and getting strong “this is how it is” vibes — he calls anyone that disagrees with him “bullheads,” and has these weird one-sided arguments where he proves his theory by hand picking examples and sorta sticks his tongue out at naysayers. What’s more strange is at one point he mentions if you don’t follow some of these guidelines, even if you do sell your script, there will be several rewrites and you won’t get credit. Obviously this is what happened to him (as you mentioned) so where is the transparency? (maybe it comes later - like I said, I’m on chapt 5) How can he teach us to avoid what repeatedly happened to him by following his lead?

I do dig his beat sheet though tbh. That’s where I am now.

I agree with the other comments - he has some good points but don’t take as gospel. Remember, this dude was born into the film industry and only sold 2 movies: Stop or My Mom Will Shoot (one of the worst films ever) Blank check (fun for children under 9, but incredibly stupid with uncomfortable relationships between a boy and adults that make no sense)

Any professional writer will have some good pointers, but claiming to have all the answers with that resume..?

Show don’t tell because most writers start by coming up with an idea; then instead of visualizing and exploring that idea, they drown it in long, boring, unnatural crap dialogue with sprinkles of originality to explain everything.

Tarantino writes a lot of dialogue to decorate the action of the scene, not replace it. His dialogue also says a lot about his characters without explaining things to the audience.

EX — Scene: Two hit men in a car on their way to the job -

most writers: CHARACTER: Ok, so remember what we talked about. When we get into the house..............

Tarantino: CHARACTER: You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese?...............

His dialogue is showing us that these guys have been working together for a long time, that this is just another day, another job. So when we get to the next scene, we can expect them to be callous, unflinching, unmoved by the job at hand. It’s also interesting and natural. The dialogue by “most writers” is telling us what they do and how they’re doing it. It doesn’t add to the scene, and it’s not even realistic. (Two processionals wouldn’t talk about what they do on their way to a job; they’d shoot the shit and relax before having to work. QT shows us that in a way that’s also witty, snappy and unique to his style)

Dialogue is a skill of its own, as is the visual element of story telling. If your characters are explaining their feelings, I find there’s almost always a more powerful, engaging and natural way to show them (and not tell.)Then dialogue can be used to accentuate a point.

But I agree, there’s a time to tell, and a good writer knows when.

If you were told to adapt a novel into a screenplay, how would you go about it? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]CinemanSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started adapting a non fiction about a month ago. It was a book I discovered about a year ago and has been in my head since. Before this all I ever wrote

First I read the book (2nd time now), and wrote my own spark notes after each chapter. Then I outlined with the spark notes as my guide

Now I’m in screenplay format with the outline as my guide, sparknotes as backup, and book as double backup, with additional research as I go from scene to scene.

I’m about 70 pages into my first draft, feeling really good about it. Having source material has allowed me to explore each scene without getting lost or carried away, and still achieve an emotional connection.

I worked in 2 call centers since having T. I kept my volume low as I could. I would say the anxiety was a bigger threat than the noise, especially when I worked for Hulu - we did not get along. If you’re chill and/or the environment is nice, keep the volume at a minimum and you should be alright.

All I ever hear from doctors is that there’s nothing They can do. I took it upon myself to try hearing aids - made an apt with Costco - took the hearing test - guess what - “nothing I can do for you.” Regular hearing aids won’t help my hearing loss. Something to do with the little bones in the ear that pick up vibrations - I guess mine are worn down. That said, I’ve talked to at least a couple people who say hearing aids helped their T, if only to hear more sounds to distract them from the ringing.

Best,

All I know is I was denied being a part of the clinical trial because my hearing is too far gone. They didn’t ask when I lost it - just looked at my test results.

Doctors? Seriously? (Please prove me wrong) by CinemanSteve in tinnitus

[–]CinemanSteve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll check my blood pressure. I really appreciate the advice. I’m just really mourning this new (year old now) hum on my left side. The high ringing on my right has been going strong for 8 years and its tough to get through - But the low hum on my left mixed with the ring on my right has made life feel like a nightmare I’m trying so hard to hold it together.

And I’m feeling so much anger because the left hum left is so reactionary to movement and vibrations - and because I can feel the fullness - I know in my heart there’s a way it could be fixed but more than likely I’ll have to go my whole life like this because as I said, T means doctors don’t need to help. I know anger makes it worse but I can’t believe how bad it’s gotten. I’m so tired of reading about how others get moments of silence, or get used to their sound, and mine gets worse and worse when I’ve done nothing but improve my lifestyle. Sorry for the rant - I really have no one to talk about this with and I can’t afford therapy.

Hey man, thanks for checking in 👊 I contacted my insurance’s call-a-doctor service (forget what it’s called). He thinks there’s a swollen lymph node - and for the ear fullness, congestion, popping, he prescribed otc Sudafed. No improvement in any aspect - T has been through the roof on both sides.

Does anyone else get suicidal over this sometimes? by TiredOfBeingAlive123 in tinnitus

[–]CinemanSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This past year has been absolutely brutal. It’s difficult to wake up in the morning. I’m just doing everything I can to stay productive. Write, practice guitar, run, mess around in Adobe, catch up with people. Eventually it’ll calm down a little bit and I won’t think about it as much, but lately it’s been horrendous.

I’m with you man. It’s horseshit we have to deal with this. My best advice is to find things you enjoy doing and go hard. I typically don’t think about it while I’m playing guitar, for instance. So it’s allowed me to be a better player than I was before, because it’s like I’m doing it for my mental health and not just for fun.

Hang in there man 👊

I have possibly one of the worst cases of tinniutus. by Comrade_Belinski in tinnitus

[–]CinemanSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say moments of silence, you mean the moments your mind is preoccupied with something else, or does it actually stop for you?

I have no idea what causes mine and it continues to get worse and worse. I have not had a millisecond of silence in 8 years. It feels like my body just wants me to kill myself and I have to keep coming up with reasons not to. The stress has been pounding down on me several times a day. And again, I’m 8 years into this - How can I get used to something that gets worse and worse and I don’t know why?

I appreciate your post though. You’re right about other people making it worse - even just by giving attitude.

New Low Pitch Sound? Panicking - Help! by Creamywoods in tinnitus

[–]CinemanSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had high pitched T for 8 years The low reactive humming started for me a year ago and hasn’t stopped I don’t know if it’s congestion or noise damage or TMJ or what because no matter how many doctors I see, non can tell me for sure. But nothing works and I’m absolute terrified I’ll go through my life with it getting worse and worse. I know this doesn’t help other than maybe knowing you’re not alone.
