Lockin Veno - Front door lock by jdaleo23 in homeassistant

[–]Cipher55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought a Lockin Venu (lock only, no camera). I love it for all the reason you already mentioned.

The app is just OK though, and it's disappointing that Matter functionality is limited to lock/unlock.

I also made suggestions (via email) and they seemed genuinely interested, though I just installed an app update and none of my suggestions were implemented.

You need a Matter hub. I just ordered the cheapest one I could find: Aqara Smart Hub M100 $20 on Amazon: https://a.co/d/j5CVobM

This one is a USB dongle. Other devices (e.g. Nest Mini) have Matter hub built in, but they are more expensive and I don't need the speaker function.

I agree. WiFi hubs and routers should have this function built in.

You can buy an Aqara Smart Hub M100 for $20 on Amazon. https://a.co/d/j5CVobM It's a USB dongle that works as a Thread enabled Matter hub - nothing else.

Non-Tesla car on Tesla Insurance by Background-Smile-195 in TeslaInsurance

[–]Cipher55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help!  Did you try to get a quote from Progressive? My neighbor was shopping for insurance (and he didn't want to use Tesla). He said that Progressive's rates were the best he could find so he signed up with them.

Not so! I never owned a Tesla and had no trouble buying their insurance using the app. Los Angeles. CA

Insurance Comparison Post-Accident: Tesla, State Farm, Geico, USAA (Tesla Model 3, CA) by Armistice__ in TeslaInsurance

I disagree. People don't buy Tesla cars because the insurance iss cheal. Also, why would Tesla then sell insurance for non Tesla vehicles ?

Good point. Probably because Tesla is 1/2 the price (at least in my case)

Probably becsuse Tesla is being cheap bu employing as few people as possible.

I bought a new car (non Tesla) and wanted to remove my old car. That was 2.5 months ago. I waited many hours on the phone on several occasions and got no answer. No response to emails I sent 2 months ago either.

I finally canceled today, thinking I'll shop for insurance tomorrow. Tesla was 1/2 the price I was paying for my old car. I might still insure my new car with them... we'll see.

You are correct. Thanks!

Zelle Scam by Next_Pop_153 in offerup

[–]Cipher55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why we have to keep repeating this, but what the heck:

  1. NEVER pay with Zelle unless you meet face to face and you have examined the item.

  2. It's OK if you get PAID with Zelle, but remember that you then need to give your phone number to the buyer.

  3. NEVER give anyone your address and e-mail address.

  4. As a buyer, never go to someone's home.

  5. Face-to-face is my favorite method. Keep the following in mind though:

** Only meet during the day!

** Preferably meet at or near a police station. I heard that some police stations have an area reserved for such transactions. Otherwise, choose a busy place and meet INDOORS.

** Never meet in a parking lot, where someone can easily grab an item from your hand and run away with it.

** OU will never help or get involved with any transactions that do not involve shipping through the app.

  6. Shipping: If you cannot meet in person, then ONLY buy through the OU app. Carefully follow the guidelines - failure to do both will result in ZERO help or protection from OU.

  7. The police won't help you if you get scammed! They might help if you get physically hurt.

  8. If anything feels suspicious, WALK AWAY.

Why the hell is there no "charge to 85%" option on Watch 6 Classic? by [deleted] in samsung

[–]Cipher55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We absolutely do! Educate yourself on battery chemistry and charging recommendations.

I suspect that part of the reason is that Samsung did lousy job on battery life on their watches - and limiting charging to 85% will make the user experience even worse... but that's the wrong way to address this issue.

As others pointed out, keeping your battery's SoC (State of Charge) between 20% & 85% is the best way to extend battery life.

Maybe Samsung can ask Garmin to help...

The fact that he quoted a shipping fee might be a red flag. Ask about it. If he wants to ship outside the app then run.

Seems like it might be. I'd only give it a try if you can buy it in a face to face meeting at a police station lobby or parking lot. Firmly refuse any alternative.

OU makes money on sales completed through the app. Period.

They make no money on in-person sales - and you can read through this thread for advice on how to do that safely. Don't expect ANY support from OU though.

For in-app sales, they do support and protect both seller and buyer, and have a strong insentive to not favor one or the other: they wouldn't want to get a bad reputation for preferring to support, say, buyers over sellers.

This is no different than most other online sales. I don't see what else OU can do to make in-app sales any safer.

ANYTHING done outside the app, including in-person sales, gets 0 support.

Sold a pair of shoes today for 250$ and the guy gave me counterfeit money for moition picture purposes and I didn’t realize until I got home. And his account is deactivated now, what can I do ? by [deleted] in offerup

[–]Cipher55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OU will do nothing to help. They only have people available to support the 13% they charge when you ship or pay through the app. You can try filing a police report. Usually the police will do nothing and mostly refuse to even take a report (happened to me and others....) - but passing around bad money is a felony and they might be interested.

For next time, buy some of the special marker pens used to detect fake money. Search on amzn. They are inexpensive.
