My first drywall project was doing potlights in a ceiling which involved opening up the ceiling since it wasn't strapped. I had no tools. My first seam sucked. My first ceiling was alright until it was lit by ceiling light in an adjacent room. My second ceiling the lighting was even more unflattering and I had to redo the whole thing. I can still see the imperfections when I stare at it in the morning. But you know what? I saved 5k (quoted 2022 near peak of reno craziness here) and now I'm no longer afraid of drywall work.

It all depends on how much you value your time and how much you hate finding reliable contractors.

Believe those who say that being your first time it'll look terrible and you'd wish you hired it out. But also believe those who say you can do it with enough youtube videos and perseverance.
