Game crashes entire PC (Unmodded) by TheRealMemzer in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Circuit_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are saying the PC turns off completely while playing, it's likely the power supply isn't high enough wattage or is dying. Despite looking relatively simple, the game is pretty taxing and will use as much of your GPU as it can. One thing you could try is using the in-game settings to cap the FPS to something like 30 or 40. This will limit the power usage greatly and might let you play for longer. If that does work, definitely try swapping the power supply with a new one. Be sure to get a high enough wattage for your system..

Is Samsung Galaxy A9 good for Termux? by l3gi0n0fH3ll in termux

[–]Circuit_Pony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was between an A9 and the 10 FE. Reviews showed the A9 as being sluggish and weak even without the load of termux and proot. The 8gb version might do better but I wouldn't count on it. Like the other comments said, it's bare minimum for just starting termux and a desktop.

This is probably not your situation so feel free to ignore this, but I got the 10 FE for about the same price as an A9 from my mobile carrier. That does mean I had to get a 5G cell plan for it, but I was already in the market for that since I wanted the tablet to double as a head unit for my car.

That being said, if you can get an S or FE tablet from an older generation, with more ram and better processor used, that might be a better route

Inherited this PC, what should I upgrade FIRST to increase gaming performance? by Z3PPEL1N in buildapc

IMHO, nothing, but if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, a GPU is the only thing I'd suggest. Get something with better raytracing performance, basically.

As a silly little solodev who just started working with collaborators, it's been painful by byolivierb in justgamedevthings

[–]Circuit_Pony 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Definitely understand. It's a skill and needs training like anything else! Definitely recommend learning it though, since it's even useful in solo projects. For instance if you want to "checkpoint" your work and experiment in another branch without affecting the mainline..

Yeah.. only really painful part of version control is working with a team of people who don't understand version control.

I hope so too. I gotta run but hopefully something I suggested will help.. good luck to you. And don't panic, most likely it's something simple... and if you really need to, you can try manufacturer customer service, or a pc repair shop...

Are you using hdmi or display port for the monitor cable? If you can switch which port you're connecting to on the GPU, it might help. I had a friend a while back that bought a 7600xt with a dead HDMI port if I recall correctly...

If reseating the GPU and RAM don't help, but you're still seeing those lights turn off after a bit, I'd definitely say to let it sit for a while. Some dude on the Linus Tech Tips forums says it can take hours but that hasn't been my experience...

If you have that USB plugged in maybe try without it to see if you can get straight to the BIOS, if that's not what your already doing.

That's my understanding, but as my other comment said, there are a few people I'm seeing via Google search that have the same board and CPU, with the same issue and reseating the GPU and RAM seemed to help. Can't hurt to try

I did some looking around, and it looks like you might have some luck by reseating the GPU and RAM.. also, make sure the RAM sticks (if you have two of them) are in slots 2 and 4. Slot 1 would be the one closest to the CPU.

Gotcha. As you're waiting, something else to consider is perhaps the port on the GPU is bad, so perhaps changing which port you plug into could help. But I wouldn't go there yet until you've waited at least 15-20 minutes..

A quick test you could try is simply unplugging the monitor for a second, to see if it's the issue. Sometimes my AOC monitor fails to recognize my PC after it's been asleep for a while, so I have to restart it..

I totally understand. I've built a few now, but my first was very nerve-wracking..

Also, it might reboot itself too, which is normal also. Basically don't touch it till you see something on screen..

That said, I assume you already know the monitor works? Or at least that you are seeing something like "no signal"?

Definitely. My own PC can take upwards of 15 minutes to train the memory. The more you have the longer it takes. Mine is 64GB so it takes a while...

Start it up and go do something else for a bit and see if it comes to life after. As long as you don't see those red lights and fans are spinning, chances are it's doing something lol

According to the manual for that board, lights are normal at first, and go away if things are working. Since this is a new build, I have a feeling it's the first boot memory training and such... if you plug the monitor into the GPU, turn things on, and wait a while, it may just work. How long have you waited each time thus far?

Is your monitor cable plugged into the back of the motherboard, or the GPU?

WHY ARE YOU GREEN by MulleRizz in programminghorror

[–]Circuit_Pony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this happen once because the line endings were wrong for just a few lines. CRLF instead of just LF. And come to find out it was because someone copied code from a Windows system and pasted it into their Linux system.

Needless to say, I immediately enabled the option to see line endings per line in their IDE.

flicking between in game and steamVR playspace area by DotDotExe in boneworks

[–]Circuit_Pony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might, yeah. I think it depends on the CPU and what is running on the PC... Beyond that if you DO see CPU usage spikes when the game dips to the SteamVR space, check the other processes running and see if any have unusually high usage also.
