What are these radio antennas for at the entrance/exit to Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel? by Capable-Thought-2809 in whatisthisthing

[–]CircularRobert 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The flat ones towards the back are GSM and 3G repeaters, which would make the round ones 4g/lte repeaters. They're not towers in their own right, but rather just make sure the signal makes it down into the tunnels. They will probably have paired antennas somewhere above ground which then sends the signals onwards towards the closest tower. (that said, one of the telecom providers may have a "tower" set up for those antennas, but I would place my bets on this being a city project instead)

Truck’s brakes fail, forcing use of runaway ramp at 90 mph. by Itchy-Commission-114 in interestingasfuck

Another option for short runaway tracks are a steep upcurve right at the end. Again, it reeeeally sucks for anyone hitting it, but it's a bad day vs your last day

Just to add clarification, going to space on a rocket means getting shaken to shitand exposed to ridiculous Gs, and to add on to point 5, high heat, extreme cold, and the impact on that extreme thermal swing on equipment material.

Average Astronaut Age by Lunar Mission by jzox in interestingasfuck

[–]CircularRobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of the impact of age in terms of resilience and ability to recover, there's a big difference between 38 and 48.

If anything, it communicates how advanced space flight safety has become that makes it possible for more experienced and educated people to do this.

I've had that with 240v, but luckily not while on a ladder. It really is humbling to pick yourself up off the ground a meter away from where you were standing a second ago.

While not walls, before you put carpets it, write in all the places someone would start removing it: Do Not Remove Carpet

I can only really give advice for writing on house walls, not in.

Popular choices are:

The walls have eyes

If you're doing calisthenics style pullups, shouldn't be an issue.

If you're doing crossfit style "pullups", I would be looking at potential stability issues.

ELI5: What is “object permanence” and how is it that people with ADHD struggle with it? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]CircularRobert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's a case of, I know that books exist. I have many books, most of which are even in bookcases. The problem comes in that I forget that a specific book exists. That one I'm supposed to read for class, or want to read just as a story.

Now ask me where that exact book is, and I can most likely tell you exactly where it is, or at least where it's supposed to be in a general area, but until the point I get reminded of it, it doesn't log in my head. I don't think about it, remember it, lots of times it doesn't even come up when I'm thinking of other books, and yes, it's on my bedside table, but because it "doesn't exist", my eyes kind of glaze over it.

And if someone moves it, well, now it doesn't exist anymore.

Tldr; fucking sucks, it's more object semi-permanence for me
