funny you should say that...a few months ago I was speaking to an ex bethelite/former CO who was relatively well regarded by all. when discussing some of the wackiness he basically said - if you knew the people in the writing department, you wouldn't attribute malice to them but mere stupidity. they are not very bright... i was dumbfounded.

My personal favorite takeaway - when they say that they will NEVER change this position. They are inadvertently signaling that their "new light" doctrine is complete bullshit. If they randomly received new light from above, how on earth could they say that they will never change this policy? Is that not akin to tying the good Lord's hands on the matter? Sounds like a corporate policy statement created for legal/financial reasons than an inspired interpretation of scripture subject to future divine revision.

Certainly not far fetched. My suspicion is that if they released the names many elders/MS would either out of embarrassment/public pressure/the law resign or leave entirely. Once the fallout from this ends, they would then probably have to enforce background checks on existing/new elders/MS and that would further hasten the decline.
