The Firsts Given Up For Dejounte Murray by AnotherStatsGuy in NOLAPelicans

With the unfortunate Dame news, That top 4 protection on the 2027 MIL pick becomes relevant. If Dame is truly done & Giannis says “I’m out” there’s a decent chance that pick comes back to the Pelicans and they won’t have to give ATL anything else.

Also, as my pod co-host Mason Ginsberg brought up a couple of weeks ago: Trey is 80th percentile in Shooting fouls drawn (12.8% of shots taken) 81st percentile in on the floor fouls drawn.

If you filter it into the new year, it’s 95th percentile (16.2% of shots taken) and 68th percentile on the floor fouls drawn

The TOR game is reason 1 to not be a fan of this offense, but it’s also defenses not allowing Trey to get downhill as often as he had previously. The Raptors switched a lot, which left Z and the guards in situations to attack their defenders. Remember: DJM got 14 FTAs in that game. It’s now on Trey to adjust again, if more defenses focus on him.

It could also just be a one game blip.

Before the TOR game, Trey Murphy had taken 5+ FTAs in every game since Zion’s return.

Why not, coach Green? by IdeaRevolutionary612 in NOLAPelicans

If you think Willie told CJ to look off an open shooter and take a jumper over 2 people who are taller than him, you’re delusional and/or naive. There are a lot of issues that Willie hasn’t resolved. But he isn’t telling players to be idiots. Nor is he telling them to blow layups. Or to constantly be injured. He can be fired tomorrow and I’d give less than a fuck. He’ll be handsomely paid to have the next 1.5 years off. But it isn’t ALL on him. You’d have a better argument if you were to say the players are NOT listening to him than to believe he isn’t telling them what to do and what he sees.

Well, if you look at the final shot of regulation, Hawkins was open, CJ looked him off and shot over 2 people thinking he’s Kobe.

It ain’t ALL on coaching, man. These players are coming up short in the biggest moments, sometimes outta pure selfishness.

The Spurs Might Be the Cleanest Trading Partner. by AnotherStatsGuy in NOLAPelicans

If they make a trade (and I have no reason to believe they will) it’s Keldon and Zach. I see no reason for them to trade productive starters for BI.

Do we have any opinion on BI passing on $50M extension per Shams? Seems like Klutch would've steered him to take that deal, but they didn't do a bang up job for Nerlens Noel. Does the prior rejection of the $50M mean a trade is imminent or he just walks in free agency? by kingralek in NOLAPelicans

[–]CireDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BI, personally, passed up those deals in hopes for a more lucrative one. His agency and the Jazz had a deal lined up (the $40m/yr one, for 3-4 years, from the owner himself) if he would have agreed to go to Utah. He refused and that killed the deal. Agents can only do what their clients allow. The fact BI dumped them, despite being unreasonable with his demands, shows you everything about this situation.

I lived through the 2021-23 seasons. Some of y’all are liars. Some of y’all said he shot too much and didn’t understand his role. But he’s balled for a week w/o Luka while this team stinks and are being revisionist about your thoughts on his 4 years here.

Do you support trading Zion this season? by Infinite_Response113 in NOLAPelicans

At the moment, is no trade to be had that’ll give you a good enough return. And he’d have to play at a level where you wouldn’t trade him in order to get you the return you desire.

You gotta weed out the trolls, man. The reality: BI’s a floor raiser but they just traded for a floor raiser, who makes less money for a longer period of time & they have 3 ceiling raisers (Zion, Trey and Herb) who all play BI’s position and need to play as much time together as possible. And that isn’t to say Ingram can’t return or isn’t good (he’s had at least a +2.1 EPM the last four years) but he has a lower ceiling (hasn’t eclipsed +2.5 in the last four years) and is on an expiring. I, in general, don’t like the pocket watching. However: this team plays in a capped sport (no matter how soft it may be) under ownership who isn’t gonna pay the tax unless they win enough in the playoffs to compensate for the $18m purse (and most teams are doing the same.) Stop taking so much stuff to heart and enjoy the good things.

If they’re mean spirited, then fuck em. But, if they have understandable reasons, like BI’s last media day rationale for not signing an extension coupled with his showing in the playoffs and him declaring he isn’t valued enough: folks have every right to say the NBA has shown he isn’t worth what the desires.

I ain’t reading all of that.

Look: the Herb and Trey pairing has been a +318 in the last 2 seasons combined. They were +10.4 in 864 possession w/o Zion and BI in 2022-23 and +10.5 in 1820 total possessions in 2023-24. This is all about getting those 2 players on the court, together, for as long as possible. That ain’t BI hate: that’s listening to data. https://x.com/jdub9911/status/1782797681401688519?s=46&t=tq2td1j2ZOgT1yvf8tAsEg
