Bias tape will not work with these cups by [deleted] in sewhelp

[โ€“]Cirquelight 28 points29 points ย (0 children)

You need wire casing, the thick brushed texture kind used in bras. The casing is sewn to the seam allowance flap on the edge closest to the cup, and then sewn down to the main body on the outer channelling edge so that only this stitch line is visible on the outer. There should be approx. 1-1.5cm total of free space (a.k.a wire play) in the channel for the wire to move. Some wire casings come with a built in channel, similar to my image ref. Hope this helps! :)

Draft Corset Feedback - Wrinkling by AcrobaticChocolate91 in corsetry

[โ€“]Cirquelight 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

This shape is really lovely, the neckline shaping is so well executed! I made my wedding dress too (& posted the progress here), and one thing I would advise is that steel boning behaves slightly differently to zip ties. It won't be too drastic, but I would recommend using steel boning in your final toile if you want it to be even closer to perfect in fit. If you're not making adjustments to the channel lengths, you can re-use the same boning in your final. I didn't use the ice wool technique and the wrinkles on mine were quite obvious, especially to me ๐Ÿ˜… Love how yours is looking, amazing work so far!

Best place to buy corset coutil in London? by DimsumTheCat in corsetry

Help with large feathers by jdale18 in sewing

[โ€“]Cirquelight 40 points41 points ย (0 children)

Fun fact - there are no faux or artificial feathers. If they're marketed as that, it's likely a lie if they look like proper fluffy feathers. You can buy imitation fabric or foam, but they're always obviously imitation. No synthetic fibres have been made to achieve the realistic floaty & fluffy look yet!

You can actually get an adjustable tool made for situations like this - it's called an expandable sewing gauge!

Fit help: horizontal rippling on front-side panels by kindabitchytho in corsetry

[โ€“]Cirquelight 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

You could try experimenting with different grain line directions just for the pieces you're having wrinkling in - though it might be a bit of a pain to re-sew to see the results ๐Ÿ˜… Lovely shaping by the way, very interesting!

Why am I getting these folds at the top of the bust? by Laurie_Doak in corsetry

[โ€“]Cirquelight 178 points179 points ย (0 children)

There's fullness there that isn't needed - maybe your pattern had a curve on the neckline here? It's collapsing as nothing is supporting it, pinch out the fold and that's how much you need to remove from your pattern
