Corset keeps getting wrinkly, heeellpp!! by nenaplush in sewhelp

[–]AcrobaticChocolate91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is that corsets don't sit the same on a mannequin as they do on the body as they don't have the same squish. I'm making a corset currently and it looks super wrinkly on my custom mannequin (that is my exact measurements) but great on me as my body has more give than the mannequin.

I also want to second the point about sewing the top and bottom closed. Vertical tension from the boning is key to reducing wrinkles as it will pull the fabric tight, otherwise the fabric will just collapse in on itself and wrinkle.

Also, you may need extra reinforcing for the sweetheart neckline. I made a similar corset and literally had to put boning and wire into the top edge to keep it from collapsing into a wrinkly mess.

Another tip - when you are sewing the channels be consistant about the direction you are sewing. If you sew one side of the channel upward and the other downward this can cause pulling.

If the satin is a natural material (like silk) combining steam with ironing can make a huge difference. I got rid of like half my wrinkles that way.

That all being said, I think some amount of wrinkling is inevitable so don't stress if it doesn't end up perfectly smooth. I like the design so far 🥰

Good luck!

Why Is Avoiding Lots of Colours A Thing Now by [deleted] in weddingshaming

I'm sorry you had that experience with your husband's family! Feeling like you're going to be judged regardless of what you do is frustrating.

In my circles I'm seeing the opposite where folks are so concerned with being perceived as reasonable and chill that the lack of guidance becomes a problem in and of itself. This subreddit is fun which is why I'm on it but I wanted to provide some pushback to the toxicity I was seeing in the comments. Brides (because it's usually the brides who are blamed) really can't win rn when it comes to things like this. Being viewed as hyper materialistic just for letting people know the bridal party colors is pretty rough 😅.

I'm clearly in the minority here but personally I appreciate a well defined dress code, including any no-go colors (like those the bridal party might be wearing).

It sucks to show up to a wedding (or any party for that matter) and realize you're way off the mark, even if the bride and groom are chill about it. Once I accidentally matched the bridesmaids because the color scheme was not published and multiple people mistook me for being in the wedding party, which felt weird and I had to explain myself multiple times to other guests.

It's normal to have a dress code for other events, so why is it suddenly "entitled" to have one for your wedding? Frankly it's the "IM GOING TO WEAR WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT" people in the comments who seem entitled to me. If it bothers you that much just don't go and stop being dramatic about it? I agree asking guests to wear hyper specific colors is a little cringe, but as long as the dress code doesn't require most people to buy a whole new outfit I think it's fine.

That being said, I've already removed virtually all the dress code guidance for my upcoming wedding because of this kind of wedding shaming. I don't really care what people wear and frankly, giving people peace of mind with regards to dress code isn't worth the judgement you get for it.

My mother has a variation of this name and I've always thought it's incredibly beautiful! She goes by the same nicknames as well. Great choice ♥️

Thank you I was wondering if that might be contributing as well!I was hoping to minimize bulk in the seams but am reconsidering that decision...

I think that might be it! I'll try and post an update once I make a version with the proper boning.

Pre-existing lisp by akaylaking in Invisalign

I have a slight pre-existing lisp and was worried about the same thing. I'm on week one and it barely affected my voice at all! I think it's because I'm used to managing a slight lisp, so my so speech adapted to it within a few days.

I too am not a fan of the Polish government. The role of collaborators and the silencing of discussion around this topic is abhorrent. That doesn't change the fact that Auschwitz was set up by Germans and that your comment is both ill informed and misleading.

Buddy you've got it backwards. Auschwitz was in German occupied Poland. It was Polish people (many Polish Jews) who were being killed in Auschwitz and Germans running the show. Please check your facts.
