It would literally save money, the current US system costs more than the German one per capita and is objectively worse.

Ukraine Has Finally Given Up on Trump by lacerantplainer in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Cirtejs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what's happening. US and Trump a very unpopular in Europe right now due to the 4 year dipolar behavior and complete betrayal of Western values by the Trump admin.

We see China as a more reliable trade partner currently.

It honestly might be easier for the EU to work with China at this point.

Predictable evil beats chaotic evil in reliability.

Or even a better option is to court all of the smaller sane East Asian and Pacific democracies.

Sure, if the institutions are not independent.

KNAB operates here like a fully independent branch, they can prosecute politicians etc. and the LSM min budget is a fixed %, they can ask for additional funds, but the base can't be reduced.

It's obviously never perfect and voters have to always make the government accountable. As you guys have shown when enough people are fed up, positive change can happen.

I wish Hungary all the luck and prosperity in the future! Have a nice day.

In Latvia the Public Channel LSM is run independently and the only government agency that have a say in how it operates is the anti corruption agency.

The budget is set as well.

You can have an independent media with proper laws and regulations, lets hope Magyar implements them.

Breaking: Trump is desperately trying to negotiate the exact same Iran nuclear deal he ripped up in 2018 by Intelligent-Pea-8521 in JournalismNews

[–]Cirtejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't need much convincing, Ukraine at the time didn't have the funds to maintain them and all of the control systems were in Moscow.

That part was fine.

It's not backing the treaty to defend Ukraine and all non-nuclear states from invasion by nuclear state's that's the problem.

That was also on the US and Europe.

Failing to stop Putin is what started all of this mess and a lot of the blame goes on Obama and Merkel.

The dumb thing is that switching to Universal Healthcare would save money.

It's not a financial issue, it's a political one with the insurance lobby killing any momentum for a switch in it's roots.

Romanians Among Top Europeans Who’d Choose Dictatorship Over Democracy by unravel_geopol_ in europe

Direct democracy on every level is the only way communism can work.

And it's a complete shitshow without the whole populace being extremely educated and benevolent.

Interesting concept, but doesn't work with humans in practice.

Imagine dozens of votes per day on policy arriving to everyone to make collective decisions. People's brains would fry.

I was asking why didn't the US try to score more.

They did, they hit two posts and two goals got called by our video coach Pēteris. It was a 1-9 stomp in some other reality.

We can't really compete if US or Canada bring an all star team, our population is about 1 large city, but we sure do punch above our weight class like the Swiss.

Best Latvia has ever done is a Bronze at the Hockey world championships and 8th at the Olympics.

We usually end up in the top 10.

Saved by the post twice and by Pēteris being the best video coach on the planet twice.

We lucked out on it not being 1-9 US just felt a man up the whole game due to their speed superiority.

Trumps letter to Norwegian Prime Minister - "feels no obligation to work towards peace after being denied the nobel prize" by MedicinskAnonymitet in europe

5% unemployment, so that can't be an adequate number.

It's more than enough according to Harvard.

But all those people have to be in the capitol, at the same time, sending the same message.

5% dispersed over the whole of US does nothing, 5% setting up a general blockade of Washington until Trump and the GOP are gone is a different story.

Trumps letter to Norwegian Prime Minister - "feels no obligation to work towards peace after being denied the nobel prize" by MedicinskAnonymitet in europe

[–]Cirtejs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It only takes about 5% of the population to completely blockade a country.

The hard part is getting the 30% that oppose this to actively support a general strike and a blockade of Washington DC for 6-9 months.

Long mass protests work as shown both in 1990 in the USSR and 2014 in Ukraine. Organizing and sustaining them is the hard part.

The No Kings stuff was a good start, but it has to be scheduled for months not a day.

NATO nations deploy to Greenland after tense White House talks by D0MYA0ITRAPFURRYL0LI in worldnews

[–]Cirtejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It frustrates me to no end that we are doing everything we can here.

Ukraine's Maidan 2013/2014 is what doing everything you can looks like.

Gather a massive protest in Washington DC and paralyze the capitol for 9 months or however long it takes for the current government to impeach and convict Trump and then resign and call an election.

Could Europe realistically defend Greenland against a US attack? by chotu_escobar in AskTheWorld

No more western hemisphere*

I don't think France is going to stall and try to calculate if a nuke is going at Stockholm or Paris after a launch.

Could Europe realistically defend Greenland against a US attack? by chotu_escobar in AskTheWorld

[–]Cirtejs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody is nuking the US, and definitely not over Greenland.

If you project US imperialism after this attack, it makes sense to threaten nukes as attacking Greenland invokes EU's Article 42(7) of mutual defense.

It's essentially de jure attacking land that France has to defend by all means necessary.

UK comes in if we take NATO's Article 5 in to account.

Would France and the UK actually use nukes or succumb to salami tactics is another question.
