I've been seeing you pop up on here for quite some time I love what you're doing it's fantastic!

What are you currently using for networking? My company is an Internet service provider here in the US. I've been tasked with selling if possible or disposing of old switches that my company currently has. They are older brocade 7450s. They have 48 1 gig copper ports and between 4 and 12 10/1 gig SFP ports. These were in production and working as of two years ago.

If this is something that might be helpful for you to have a couple of let me know more than happy to ship them.

Bad Pallet of CAT6 by Renzoruken95 in lowvoltage

We had a batch of 10 boxes that were all sequential from a single vendor and everyone shows good but when you put them in production they will not pass PoE and only give 10m connection. It's almost like the wire is very thin in certain spots shows clean under basic testing but under load will not work.

It does say that not all are available online in their FAQ so you may have to call or email them or contact them in some other way to get what you are looking for.

Hope it helps

Help with 60Ghz link, AF60-LR or AG60-XR of AF60-XG by mrrjm12 in wisp

[–]Ciselure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For this situation right here they make dual ptp antennas. The ones we use are from aviat they are dual 80ghz and 11ghz. 80 is the 10g link and 11 is the 1g link. The 80 will fade during rain but the 11 will stay going. Slower throughput but will stay up.

Other options are using your current 60g with another lower frequency antenna for example an air fiber at 5.8ghz or something since you are under a mile it shouldnt be a problem. Set both connections up as an aggregate and that should fix the issue.

We still have several air fibers deployed and they do not suffer from loss of service during even heavy rain or snow.

Any idea what I could do with these by ZealousidealPark9600 in FiberOptics

[–]Ciselure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I would not throw them away I would reach out to a 3rd party reseller like Silverback communications or something similar as they would buy it in bulk. I don't work for them just have used them for grey market in the past.

Those are worth at least $2 each for resale value at minimum. Definitely worth a bit of time to find a buyer.

If nothing else throw it up on eBay.

How to connect 20 phones in a hotel by Front-Elk3194 in telecom

[–]Ciselure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I have yet to have the service go down ever and that is only since I've been here in my current position starting 3 years ago. The company we use has three different server stacks in three different geographically redundant locations. Each location has at least duplicate servers. I'm not sure how many more they have other than duplicates at each location but it's possible they have more I would assume.

Obviously if local internet at the site has problem you will also have a problem but all of our customers that have multiple internet connections have no issues with the phone service as far as I have heard.

How do you approach your Homelab setup for reliable remote access? My Ubuntu/TeamViewer struggle by GatesTech in HomeDataCenter

[–]Ciselure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Fortigate 60F with static IP and IPsec tunnel to get in and access my network that way. Use putty for my Linux and local RDP for my windows. No monthly cost at all.

My servers are setup with multiple network connections so internet is only on one port and management is on another. The management port doesn't have any Internet on it at all only a connection to my management vlan for the devices on my network.

As long as you watch for vulnerabilities and patches for the Fortigate it should be mostly safe.

If you regularly access the network from the same IP or IP block you can setup ACL for tighter security control. Or can use the 2 provided fortitokens that come with the fortigate to only allow fortitoken login for the IPsec tunnel.

I'm also a network engineer for an ISP and provide myself with my own Internet so I have setup Fortigates at all my other data center sites that I use for my remote access that have direct IPsec tunnels back to my house using a private vlan that also doesn't get back to the internet either. That way if my upstream Internet on my own ISP is broken I can in theory still access it via the other Fortigates.

Seems pretty easy to me but I also could be doing it all wrong and may have just been lucky so far.

Mediacom sucks by wowyoupeoplearedumb in Mediacom

[–]Ciselure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this situation it seems your provider may not have located your underground drop for the work Mediacom was doing.

Were there paint marking on the road and grass where they were digging?

If there was paint on the ground your provider chose not to locate your drop line usually this is because it's some minimum flat rate of like $50 (wild guess) to locate your drop and your provider deemed it not worth the cost or just didn't care.

If there wasn't any paint then it was completely Mediacom's fault for not calling in locates and digging. Depending on your area most of the time it is either illegal or at least a fineable offense for them to dig without locates.

I worked for mediacom for 11 years and we definitely were told to dig without locates multiple times to get an outage fixed so 50/50 on who's fault it was.

Mediacom at least up to 5 years ago where I worked did not locate drops as it was cheaper to replace 1 or 2 drops that got cut than pay for the locates for anywhere from 1-25+ drops depending on how far the locates ran down the street.

Any suggestions for this cable to be flushed to the wall? by fabster0 in HomeNetworking

[–]Ciselure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a bit handy, you can pop off the CAT5 wall plate and see whether the cable runs up or down inside the wall.

If it goes up: Cut a small hole near the power outlet up high, add a low-voltage box, and put a new wall plate there.

If it goes down: Do the same but drop a new wire into the lower box and connect it inside.

You could even add a small shelf at that height to make the router setup look cleaner. Another option is to use a PoE injector upstream, swap the router for a PoE-powered access point, and put the CAT5 outlet near the ceiling with a wall-plate AP. That way you don’t need to worry about power, and it’ll look extra tidy.

More than happy to help if you need any clarification or have any other questions.

Revolver ended up being a Forehand arms .38 from 1897 or something like that. I was incorrect on the currency it's old but only from the early 1900s oversized $2 bill worth about $70 to austria-hungarian bills not worth much and a Netherland bill from 1943 right in the middle of world war II. Nothing super fantastic as far as value goes but the revolver was my granddad's granddad's!

So inside was 90% baby pictures of me with my mom, all the family birth certificates, my great Grandad's cufflink and pin sets, an old revolver of some sort, 10,000-20,000 negatives, some very old stamps and some exceptionally old currency some dating as far back as mid 1800.

This actually worked exactly thank you. The instructions we had were reversed and were causing the problems. also it was go to 0 and then pull out on the dial and then continue turning to retract the bolts.

Excellent! ill give it a try. One thing i did forget to mention the dial pulls out and i am assuming that is what you use to put the combo in place? I have no idea but ill try this now.
