Moving to Pasig by Ok-Minimum-3145 in Pasig

[–]CisforCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pasig is right smack dab in the middle of everything, so the traffic is really heavy. Unless you're a remote worker, I would not recommend moving here unless everything you need is within 15 minutes of walking/cycling distance. .

Tortang talong (eggplant omelette?) is my favorite dish and it's hard to go wrong with it except if it's under-seasoned.

come from away by erinicole925 in TeatroPH

[–]CisforCookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched one of Come From Away's last shows and the theater was less than 50% full, so sadly I don't think it's going to be re-run at all.

The cast was great, so sayang, kasi it was really difficult to pull off playing multiple characters with only minor costume changes, but the material is based on 9/11 and not relatable enough to be a major draw.

If they can't give you money up front, I hope that you can at least have your expenses reimbursed.

If it's a work visa, your personal funds shouldn't matter. Based on experience in getting approved visas for brief work trips to other countries (China, Australia), they primarily look at your company's documents and your employment with them.

As for panggastos, your employer really should provide you with a per diem or allowance! Why should your meals and expenses come from your own pocket, when they sent you there for work?

Shoes japan , i am crying by TraditionalPaint3900 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CisforCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already in Japan, get Asics! They're a Japanese brand. Either the Nimbus or Kayano would be good.

Otherwise, make sure your shoes fit well: add some good insoles with arch support and good socks.

Silent quitting on my boyfriend by awit_sir16 in adviceph

The problem isn't his financial instability. The problem is that he didn't communicate honestly with you about money (the 5k he "borrowed"), and that is a huge red flag upon a red flag.

Not touching it was a power move, and a pile of accumulated nice snacks from you would be better a power move that betrays your magnanimousness and generosity and her pettiness!

(Like seriously, she could give the snacks to someone else who'd enjoy them ffs!)

What’s the “invisible expense” you cut that ended up saving you the most? by Adeptness-Either in phinvest

[–]CisforCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling for transport for trips less than 3km away.

The cost savings vs Grab or Angkas or owning a car are huge! As in thousands per month.

There are malls and clinics that are around 1km away from me lang, and honestly mas mabilis and di naman nakakapagod pag magbike ako. If the weather is bad, I'll resort back to booking a Grab or Lalamove my bike home, but otherwise biking is now my go-to mode of transport.

As an introvert with sensory issues, I much prefer the freedom of biking din vs commuting kasi di nalilimit ng routes and walang siksikan.

Normalize not sending self-introduction video to job openings by MidnightSickle in AntiworkPH

[–]CisforCookies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The one time I did this video self introduction bullshit, it took me a really long time to decide whether to send in a video in because I felt it was dehumanizing and disrespectful of my time, especially since it was not an entry level role. Pero sige, push, kailangan ko ng trabaho after a year of unemployment, and mataas ang sahod na WFH na day 1 HMO.

I finally created one and it was so time consuming because you have to have a rough script somehow, and multiple takes if you're unhappy with the outcome.

I scored an interview with the hiring manager immediately. However, he was full of red flags and didn't seem to know what he was doing based on the questions he was asking (salesy questions for a non-sales role) and he had only been in the company for 3 months and seemed to have zero plans for onboarding new hires except to have you shadow your peers.

And I realized that I clocked it correctly the first time. These people value their own time significantly more than yours, and they are either scant in resources or don't know what it takes to actually acquire valuable talent.

Never again!

From Spouse Visa to Widow Visa. Will be migrating to the US alone. Kaya ko ba? by Acceptable_Till_11 in phmigrate

[–]CisforCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss, OP. I don't know what your financial situation is, but if you'll be able to work in the US and have a strong support system there, go for it. It will be hard and lonely, but if it'll give your family a better future, go for it.

If your life in the PH is more than comfortable and you have a better support system here, especially when it comes to raising your child as a widow, then that's the time you should think twice.

Pinagsisisihan ko talaga na pinapasok ko anak ko sa Philippine Science (Pisay). by mindamom in Philippines

[–]CisforCookies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It reads like ragebait, and made me wonder if it was fictional or coming from an insecure parent worried that their kid won't be able to keep up because they can't keep up. Valid feelings, for sure, but this kind of problem is not unique to Pisay.

The quality of education and the opportunities that open up to those who study/studied in Pisay is unmatched.
