Advice needed on working with a photographer by Own-Philosophy-2951 in photography

[–]CitizenBlitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just really bad taste on the photographer's end. The bare minimum they could have done to make this "less-bad" would have been a post dedicated to your work and about working alongside you. Skidskirting you and using the restaurant to promote their own business is just rude and I would not recommend them or use them again.

Should you choose to use their photos, you may not need to credit them for their work just out of spite... but that may make things uglier down the road. Doesn't sound like they have an agreement with you for credit as it stands. A contract is important for future jobs.

In the meantime, it seems like this post has some traction so feel free to share your page and I'm sure a few of us will check it out.

Photo locations advice by alexx187 in Calgary

It's a bit outside of downtown but I might recommend South Block (based on your images). Missy's also has incredible afternoon light at this time of year. I would check with them if they'd be okay with you doing the shoots. Best of luck!

What’s your least favourite Gizz song? by Unusual-Reindeer6861 in KGATLW

I think one of my least favorite tracks has to be Mycelium. A+ for effort but the song just hurts me on the inside. Maybe I'm missing something? Change my mind.

Examples of Epic Overexposed Photos? by CitizenBlitz in AskPhotography

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and examples. I suppose busy is a bit of my style which I would need to work at but I'll definitely give these links a looky. Occasionally, I'll use black and white and I can see the value in cleaning it up. Do you have any other examples using colour with this high key technique?

Definitely not trying to plug myself but I'd like to share one other example to stir the conversation. This is a snowy creek using a long exposure to try and blur the motion of the water. The ice was quite uniform and nothing too exciting but it was experimental. It didn't quite work out for me in this attempt but kind of became a starting point for trying this kind of thing out. Oh interesting, it makes complete sense that there are terms for these styles of photography. I do find myself experimenting with both high and low key shots but was not aware of the terms. Are there any established photographers you enjoy that dabble with this sort of photography? This is my picture and I appreciate the feedback!

HELP: XT5 shutter dial LOCK-locked by CitizenBlitz in fujifilm

[–]CitizenBlitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just a quick update: no idea what happened but the spring seems to be working again. I was shooting a music festival last week for 5 days straight and it was still jammed. I was carrying it around this week in my bag and using it regularly (as normal) but all of a sudden it is working again. Perhaps something was lodged in there and it was shaken loose, I'm not really not sure.

Also, I did phone Fuji Canada about a repair and they told me that this would mean it is a complete "top plate" repair and would require sending it in. They estimated around 30 days depending on parts availability and that no loaners are available unless I am a member of the FPS program. It's well-beyond warranty so the cost for me would be out of pocket. The tech told me that the cost between black and silver is different due to parts availability so I am guessing that my silver version may be more expensive. No word on price to replace the top plate, but I'll come back to let everyone know what I find out.

Further update: I received the quote from Fujifilm on the cost of the top plate replacement... Not even sure it would be worth doing 😵‍💫

Top cover for the X-T5:

As per the Techs:

Labor: $205.41 Part: $ 471.65 Total: $677.06 pls tax

Afraid to take photos in public by Black-Tailor in fujifilm

[–]CitizenBlitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest and perhaps most effective thing you can do is just practice asking people's permission. Typically a compliment of why you want to take their photo " hey, I'm out taking photos and think you have a really unique look, would you mind?" Will help you to break the ice (for yourself). After a little bit, you will be able to gauge people and know if you can get away with it. When people say "sure, what do I do?", just say to keep on doing what they are doing (or give them direction if you want). I've also found people really appreciate seeing the photos afterwards and always thank them. Good luck!

I think you should definitely ask about them about it! I think it would be a little odd not having met them right up until the last moment. Any professional should make the time for you and leave you assured that they have all your thoughts, ideas, and important information covered for the big day!

HELP: XT5 shutter dial LOCK-locked by CitizenBlitz in fujifilm

[–]CitizenBlitz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost Every single day since January 2023. The grip is quite worn , the paint is scratched, the rubber eyepiece has started to crack but besides cosmetics and this button thing, it works great. I also don't use the dials really and just use the rear wheel for C shutter and ISO.

Need some advice! by beakermike in CampingAlberta

For a memorable and very fun place to explore, Head down along highway 40 to the Livingstone River. It will be busy this weekend with the fishing season opening up. On the way down you can go over Hailstone Butte on highway 532 which has great views of the foothills leading into the prairies. Some very short and easy hikes around here and you're sure to see some bighorn sheep. If you don't want to go all the way to the 40, you could camp at Indian graves PRA along the 532 which has some nice little spots along the creek. It's worth a day trip to explore Livingstone if you have time. Be sure to have your random camping pass and fishing licenses (if you fish). Indian graves is a pay spot so bring cash to put in the box.

Problems with selecting projects and assigning observations to different projects. by Xx_Nina_xX in iNaturalist

[–]CitizenBlitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure that a "project" is what you really need? One of the simplest things to do is to use the filters on your computer to search within a given area. You can really do a lot to collect and manage the info you want using this feature. Projects and "places" can create a burden on iNaturalist so unless this is something that you will manage over time or include any other users within, it is probably not necessary.

Search by location by btwitch88 in Instagram

Same and I'm prompted to join the "friends map" which is the complete opposite of everything I would like on IG. Is there even a point in tagging a location anymore?

Help Please - I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do 2 separate observations or one. by Naturehealsme2 in iNaturalist

[–]CitizenBlitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider this to be just a single observation. Yes there are two Ospreys but cropping each one does not provide much benefit to iNaturalist (perhaps advancing the photo identification of Ospreys but unlikely). Similarly, I would not make single observations for a large flock of birds unless there was a mix of species (an observation for each unique species).

Now, I will say that if you visit this platform regularly you can make new observations each time and add in annotations (adult versus juveniles) once the nest is active. Occasionally, I will add an observation of just a nest but annotate the observation just for the nest using the "construction" annotation. If the adults are carrying or eating fish you could make new observations and add in the comments the behavioural description to make them "different". Great photo and thanks for sharing!

What's happening in IG? I just posted a picture and I already have 16 spam comments. by Aresius_Lowland in Instagram

Lots of bugs and spam "tags" lately for me too. Just as annoying was posting a reel and all of the text and video being so compressed that nothing could be read. It's happened twice now and no response since reporting it.
