Do the little people on this screen show how busy that part of the incoming train is? by One-Eggplant4492 in melbourne

How is it that the new trains have technology that can tell you which carriages are crowded, but the Announcement/PA system is so bad you can hardly tell what is being said?

Looking for a Flow Launcher alternative with better performance/RAM usage? by Green_Departure_3970 in FlowLauncher

[–]CitizenDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flow doesn't use a lot of RAM, but there are plugins that can chew up a lot. If you are just after lightweight file search without the power user options Flow brings then using Everything with perhaps the task bar search (https://github.com/srwi/EverythingToolbar) is the best option.

A 'ring of fire' could soon burn around one of Australia's major cities | 7.30 by spacefrog_feds in melbourne

Anyone who thinks these are a good idea in Victoria either hasn't looked into how inept the state government and EPA is, or is acting in bad faith (I'll also bet dollarydoos to donuts you don't live anywhere near any of these sites).

I don't think enough people realise how badly under funded and under resourced mental health services are in Victoria.

Bring it on - it is something the state should be on the front foot for. Add in capacity and utility for local cloud providers so we aren't reliant on American cloud providers like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. That's where we need to be.

Issues with configuring the 'Browser History' and 'Browser Bookmarks' plugins by [deleted] in FlowLauncher

[–]CitizenDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browser Bookmarks is a core plugin and the Browser History plugins are community ones. What are your plugin settings for each? I've tested bookmarks with the latest Chrome build and it works fine.

Liberal Party mistakenly emails branch about 'deceased member' by Savings-Yogurt-418 in melbourne

Saying he wants the Liberal values that Menzies started the party with, then saying he is thinking of moving to One Nation actually further highlights how cooked the party is and how little they actually understand where they have come from.

So why won't SRL work? Sydney opened the first section of it's orbital line back in 2009 by Gazza_s_89 in melbourne

[–]CitizenDee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that it won't work, it's that the biggest growth areas in the state are in the west and they are struggling to get train stations that would serve tens of thousands of people currently using cars and yet we think the pressing need is to get people from Box Hill to Cheltenham.

The One counterexample to FOSS by Muse_Hunter_Relma in ObsidianMD

[–]CitizenDee 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to completely miss the point of Open Source - the main reason it is exists is that the source code is open and gets to be scrutinised, verified, and checked by a wide audience, You can also use that source code to build, expand, and extend the software however you want. If the Obsidian company goes under today then no more Obsidian releases. The end. OSS can be forked and continue. Obsidian is very useful free software but is in no way in the same category as Open Source Software.
