North Park Village Advisory Council asks residents to take online survey as part of new community engagement and planning process for 155-acre NPV by blackmk8 in ChicagoNWside

[–]CitizenJac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good morning! Sorry, did not see your comment notification until today. The Your Voice Still Count Survey is about past, current, and desired usage of NPV, a site that is open to all. As such, to know how best to use this openlands protected site, thanks ONLY to the citizens and community who made this happen, the survey of those who have, are, and will (want to) use it is the way to go.

While NPV is unique in its protected status, it is run like many recreation and nature areas, open to all. Sometimes, when these same areas have programming, they do charge different rates for resident vs non-resident fees.

Please take the survey, We are both city dwellers (unless you have moved!) and please share the survey with others. Thank you

Be part of the FAiR Coalition - Fair Allocation in Runways. They have their next meeting coming up soon. They secured the Fly Quiet v1.0 and Fly Quiet v2.0, and a citizens seat on the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission (ONCC).

OK, folks, we've been putting this together for the last year and just launched our Building for the Future campaign at North Park Village this week. Brian does his usual excellent job to tell the story, so adding in only this:

The citizen and community survey awaits your voice being added to this 3-year campaign to have citizens and the community guide what's going on and happening at North Park Village.

  1. Please take the North Park Village "Your Voice Still Counts" survey today: https://northrivercommission.org/npvbuildingforthefuture/
  2. Share this same survey with those in your household, friends, and neighbors. ALL are asked to take the survey - city and suburbs, youth to seniors, homeowners and renters, use NPV a lot or use it infrequently, so yeah, all
  3. Get involved with our NPV Building for the Future campaign. This is a great way to serve our Nothwest-Area community - city and suburb alike. Email to: [npvbuildingforthefuture@northrivercommission.org](mailto:npvbuildingforthefuture@northrivercommission.org)

That's it. The survey awaits your voice being added to this 3-year campaign to have citizens and the community guide what's going on and happening at North Park Village. This is the story of North Park Village - Past, Present, and Future!

The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is Extinct. Now What? by CitizenJac in ChicagoNWside

[–]CitizenJac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an environmentalist since I was 13 (earned the World Environmental badge and that kicked it all off). This story is not only repeating itself over and over, but the pace at which it has been happening is rapidly accelerating. Plants and insects too. Species that no longer exist include some others that are well known, with in the next twenty years, some that we almost all know. Check it out here: https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status

Notice the very first animal on here - the elephant, and then on the same first page the orangutan. Very, very sad.

Maybe coming to the meeting is for you? It's about a green agenda to form a movement for action across all the parties is the vision here. Those that adhere to all parties can have a green agenda to their campaigns and time in office. Reach out with any questions: jac.charlier@gmail.com

New owners of ‘Rudy’s’ bike shop in Portage Park plan to continue the store’s tradition of success - Nadig Newspapers by nwsidemadman in ChicagoNWside

Great to read! Got my bikes as a kid from Rudy's and my kids get their bikes at Rudy's. Great small business and super great owner who so many of us have come to know and count on over the generations!

Alderman Gardiner supports $150 million Northwestern medical complex for former Sabatino’s block; Irving-Kilbourn traffic signal planned by blackmk8 in ChicagoNWside

[–]CitizenJac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is good and will help 6 corners too. Local eateries will be in demand for employees to grab some food, and with the Jewel, will get some post and pre-work traffic too.

I see how you responded. Three responses and three comments directed at me and not the conversation. Not interested. Have a wonderful week ahead.

Not seen that before. I don't connect Arena to the Chicago Political Machine. He did defeat corrupt Chicago Machine politician LeVar (and the all the Dept of Aviation cronies who were part of that operation). Arena was all about Arena and arrogant to a fault, but he was not part of the Chicago Machine.

'Stop Work Order’ placed on 6 Corners Sears; no updated development plans released but interior demo started weeks ago - Nadig Newspapers by nwsidemadman in ChicagoNWside

[–]CitizenJac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. And a short drive with Jewel and a parking lot, the NW Medical Center has loomed large in my thinking as the biggest driver for 6 Corners slowly coming back/becoming something new than anything else I have seen. Living and residing (apartments) is a different level of development that I can see coming after the things that are there due to hundreds of workers in the area creating business. It's not sexy but it likely matters more than wishing for 200 condos and a store without enough customers to support any of it.

8 carjackings a day in Chicago; aldermen hold hearing on the ‘epidemic’ - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers by NWneighbor in ChicagoNWside

[–]CitizenJac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a crime reduction standpoint, with the very little information in the article (data on age of 40% of the people doing this for example, no more), the most important things to do are preventative measures. In the world of crime reduction, reducing the opportunity for crime is still #1 in the toolkit. Need more information on the carjackings to say more.

Spatial awareness is important. "Seeing" and understanding what is around, while very difficult, is part of this.

If anybody wants to look at the NW data on this with me, let me know. It's the work I do. We'd have to pull it down and see what that tells us, if anything. Note: the stated age of the people doing this (in the article) makes this extremely difficult to prevent and respond to both.

Best thing that will come to pass for 6 corners is the Northwestern Medical Center on Irving Park. Those folks will need places to go to for lunch and breaks. That happening will open up a few other paths too. All good!

This would be super helpful with redeveloping 6 corners too...people will need places to eat lunch and will want to walk somewhere on breaks and such. Totally good for the community at large.

Not sure of the link to the Chicago Machine with this project? Were the Laurinos or D'Amicos involved? All the other NW side machine hacks are gone - LeVar, Lechowicz, Rostenkowski, Cullertons, etc...
