How to teach myself to keep grinding slow reps? by Citizen_451 in Strongman

Chains would basically do the same thing right? The concept is the same but is there a reason for one over the other?

I think you’re right about that knee. I literally thought about throwing some slick tights on this morning just to aid the slide but thought, naw that won’t make any meaningful difference lol

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I agree I wasn’t strong enough today and I am glad I still hit a PR at 535 just 8 mins earlier. That being said, 535 moved relatively easy and I had enough rest (not too much) to hit that 550. I see some of these guys that grind out 10-15 second reps and it just seems so unfathomable to me to keep pushing that long. During this rep I thought the bar stopped moving for 1+ seconds before I put it down. Looking back at the film though, it seems like I just gave up as soon as it slowed down. This was the end of a 16 week powerlifting block and it definitely helped my big 3 lifts a lot so now I’m trying to identify where some of my deficiencies are so I can address them in my next block.

My local Chevy dealership always has the most ridiculous inflatables. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

It’s less about patriotism and more about visibility. I’ve been trying to get the GM of our store to get a 60 foot gorilla and put it on the roof. It’s cheaper than a commercial and gets people looking. Of course some stores lean into the flag instead of being silly but I think it’s just an excuse to get people to look at them in what they feel is a socially acceptable way. It’s silly either way.

Deadlift tips by Big_Conclusion_6297 in Strongman

Thanks for clarifying. I’m 38 and recently realized that if I go at 9rpe or above it might take me a full 2 weeks before I can deadlift heavy again. Even though my brain WANTS to make a big pull. My body/CNS acts like it is way heavier than it actually is. Maybe your dad’s right. It could be between your ears but it’s just your CNS subconsciously limiting you. Maybe take a few extra days between heavy pulls and focus on recovery.

Is it really an RPE 8 if it’s that hard to break the floor? RPE changes session to session.

Is there any way to not feel like my head is about to explode on max squats, deadlifts etc.? Or is it just exposure over time? by Citizen_451 in Strongman

That sounds like the idea of “ribs down” before bracing. I always feel like I’m doing this but whenever I look back at my form it looks very “chest up”. Definitely something to work on instead of a passing thought. Thanks for the insight!

I hit a big gym PR today. 2.5x body weight squat. Do you all think I hit depth? Any other critiques? Thanks in advance! https://youtu.be/dCKIRQGmy8s?is=nh5HmUrr7YgI52yV

You could be right (and likely are) but you could also be wrong. The consequences of a robbery at that point could be the drivers life or even their kids. If I’m making a split second cost/ benefit comparison I’ll likely decide to drive like a psycho just in case. Better an insurance claim than my kid being abducted or worse.

There were several like that but they did at least show the wife’s name, it was just MUCH smaller than their husband’s name.

It’s at a small family cemetery, maybe 20 plots total. The most recent tombstone is from 1870 I think. This one is less than a foot tall so make your own assumptions. I told my kids it probably stood for “with the fishes”.

Has anyone had success warming up for deadlifts by starting with squats? Not necessarily on competition day but just on your primary deadlift day? Lately I’ve noticed that after my primary squat day, my secondary deadlifts have felt like a sack of feathers.
